I'm not much for reading but when i do i read the King James Holy Bible or some sort of guitar or trucking magazine and anything written by Max Lucado. The Clapton bio sounds interesting though.

Captive City, by Ovid Demaris
The book has been out of print for some time now. If you can find it in a library or used book store please give it a read it will help you to understand how a beard (front) for the organization ended up in the White House (the current administration? say it ain't so grandpa), how unions took over most businesses, how it all started really. From the days of murder, bombings, arson, extortion and how those were used to take over practically every aspect of life. Where union dues end up and why. How the template of those early plans have become a worldwide enterprise. Crooked cops, federal judges, politicians, business leaders and their real names that you can actually confirm. Although I'm sure most of the records that this author accessed have disappeared or been destroyed (the powers that be don't like truth very much) there is a wealth of information in this book that will give you the shivers. Reading it won't change anything but at least you'll know what really happened in America and why it was spread across the entire planet. In the authors words "Chicago is a city in chains, the tie between mobster and politician is closer than anywhere else in the world including Sicily." But every one knows by now (european union anyone?) it has all been fashioned to operate just like the captive city.

Hey SBLS just read your thread about 177 pages, interesting bro.

As for books im back reading a few after a book reading hiatus. "The radioactive boyscout" was a reall gem, its set somewhere in Michigan too, learned a bit about reactors too, might come in handy if the price of 'lectric keeps going up here in Blighty.

Now im reading "The Tiger" a tale of tigers in the "taiga" ( far eastern Russia) and how they interact with people including eating a few peeps

I've kind of stopped half way through The Book With No Name by Anonymous. I'm waiting on the arrival of Only Revolutions by Mark Z. Danielewski.

Ha! Welcome back, old thread.

I'm currently struggling my way through The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles. It inspired a ghastly film by Bertolucci starring John Malkovich, and one of Sting's better songs (Tea in the Sahara) from his days in The Police.

I've been meaning to read it for decades: it is only 280 pages long and I'm hating every one of them. It is a nasty little book about nasty little people - but once I start I have to finish.

The cover claims; "Ranks with the dozen or so most important American novels published since World War II." God help them if that were true! Luckily, it isn't.

Not recommended.

Cheers - C
