I'm reading the Harry Potter series now ...

I just finished them. Very good, by the way (never saw the movies). I had to find someone I could quote that also was reading it so I would not be the only one (thanks, jgauker!)

:oops:

Just finished two ;
1) The One: The Life and Music of James Brown by RJ Smith &
2) When I Left Home: My Story by Buddy Guy, David Ritz
Both of theses were fantastic and I would recommend them

I'm currently reading:

'The Decline and Fall of the British Empire' by Piers Brendon
'One Day in September' by Simon Reeve (about the 72 Olympic massacre)

Just finished 'Those Are Real Bullets, Aren't They' by Peter Pringle (not the canadian theremin player :lol: ). Highly recommended and a very gripping read about bloody sunday in Derry.

I used to ride a bus to and from work, giving me a solid 2-3 hours of reading time every day. Nowadays I drive a car, so my library is expanding A LOT faster than I'm reading books (anyone else got a bad case of BAS? :lol: )

What's your verdict? I've heard nothing but bad things about Krauss from friends of mine that's read this and some of his other books, so I've pretty much ignored him. Any good?

I think it's quite good, as long as you keep in mind that he doesn't really try to explain why, but gives insight into the hypotheses of how. It's also (by necessity) a 50,000 ft view.
i'd give it 3.5 out of 5 - it would have been a solid 4 if he hadn't fallen for the temptation (like Dawkins) to take a few cheap shots at deists along the way. Which is all well and good, but not needed in this book. Instead of educating, it will likely make deists in general and Christians in particular throw away the book and attack the author despite any valid and logical points he presents. Which is kind o counter-productive.

For more depth on string theory, in a way non-physicists can understand, I recommend this:

The reading grade is a bit higher, though, but it's a fun ride. 4.0 out of 5. It would be a good book to pick up after "A Universe From Nothing". Susskind is more like Hawking in that he states it's not for him to say whether there is a divine being, but instead explains how string theory does not require one to answer the anthropic question - why the universe is so perfect for just us.
