Ah-ha! Interesting. There's one or two more, uh, controversial books by him as well, that are worth a glance if you find he's your cup of tea.

I'm currently relaxing with a collection of Chekov. It keeps me off the streets.

Cheers - C

"The Art of Fielding" by Chad Harbach, which I'm really enjoying despite my total lack of interest in baseball. I'm also working my way through a wee book of Nabokov shorts, and I've got a big stack of Stephen Fry books a friend lent me to keep me busy.

Utterly interesting, I don't find him controversial at all. 8)

I received Carlos Castaneda's Trilogy for Xmas - The Teachings of Don Juan, A Yaqui Way of Knowledge; A Separate Reality and Journey to Ixtlan and just started re-reading them.

Having read them in the early '70s, I'm 4 chapters in and enjoying them more than I thought I would. Great read !

cheers!

Just finished Broken Harbour by Tana French.

It's a straight ahead police procedural with a rich vein of paranoid insanity thrown in, set in Ireland during the crash. Ms French has an elegant and well calculated writing style, dropping in just enough Irish inflections that those of us who know the country can hear the various Dublin accents in our heads, but nothing that would get in the way and barely even be noticeable to readers from anywhere else.

A part of the plot centres on conversations on internet forums and the dynamic of how those work - I felt the Fender Forum had fully prepared me for getting those bits of the story! :D

Thoroughly satisfying if you like detective stories and a total page-turner: I found myself reading it when I should have been doing other things, which ain't bad.

Cheers - C

wonderful thread, excellent teaser for what you're currently reading Ceri, thankyou. This Forum, e-mails and texts are about the extent of my reading of late. pretty boring except for this Forum. Carry on. :D

Just finished Dylan's Chronicles. Lots of interesting insights. I particularly like the casual way he says most of his LPs from the early 70s were simply put out to ward off creditors, when people were always expecting a musical 'event'.

Not a Dylanite myself, but a great book about music all the same. A clever move to focus on emerging creativity and its process, things and people on the periphery, avoiding the mids 60s altogether.

The Godfather. Never got around to reading this as a kid, it's addictive, if pulpy.

Dreams. Carl G. Jung.

Due to the subjective nature of the psyque, the people in your life
are not at all what you think they are. Most are an Imago,
the vehicle of your subconscious projection.
Ah hell, where´s my Strat.
