I have aquired a 1964 Mustang guitar with ser no. L50523.
The stamp on the neck says Nov 8 64 B. Onthe tuning head it says
contour body, however the body is not conroured. I have good reason to beleive that this giutar is original, but have never heard of this anomoly.
If anyone can offer any insight or information I would be forever greatfull :?:

It could be legit, believe it or not. The contour body sticker was put on the Mustang headstocks well before they actually started contouring the bodies which was in 1968 IIRC.

Hey Martian I appreciate the info. I was wondering if maybe I had somthing unique considering the time frame, as cbs took over in early
65 I'm hoping I have somthing desireably collectible. Electrics are a bit
out of my norm, but I'll keep digging arround to see what I can learn. 8)

My 65 has the "contour body"decal on it also and no contour just a flat slab body.

No problem.

Well, let's put it this way, you've got a piece there worth a few bucks! As a matter of fact, Mustangs seem to be making a comeback and are once again becoming very popular, very fast. Obviously, due to its age, you have the most sought genre. Surely, you'll get a nice piece of change for that if you ever decide to unload it. Unfortunately, I'm not in the appraisal aspects of the business so I couldn't give you any kind of accurate price.

Good luck with it!!

I don't mean to rain on your parade(I'm raining on mine too)but according to the latest Vintage Guitar price guide a 64-65 Mustang Daphne blue (unfaded)is worth $1,850-1,950 and white or red is $1,750-1,850 but then again I've seen them on vintage guitar sites for almost $1000 more than that.

You're kidding about the rain right? The Mustang was a short scale advanced student model guitar. It's surprising how much they went up in value. I always wanted the Competition Mustang with the racing stripe. (Hey I was only 11)

The Competition colour Mustangs(69-72)are generally worth a bit more however some people specify they don't want them in ads for some reason.
