Celtic: Just because I really like Nirvana does not invalidate your loathing of Cobain. We all have our varous tastes. Personally, I loathe Neal Young ... which -- in this forum -- tends get people's panties wrapped around the axle, too. So I get what you mean. The way I see it ... for us guitars players who pay taxes, I think we all have more in common than differences.

Big time bro. It's all good. Perfect example being I ADORE Guns N' Roses, but thats a collection of a55holes if I ever saw one!

Let's see, I'm 50, I guess that's old to you guys, but I like punk and grunge. I saw the Ramones (and many punk/new wave bands from Europe and the Sates in a small bar that seats 500 in 1980 or so, saw Candlebox in the same location just a few years ago. Oh and I saw U2 there as well on their first tour of the US - FOR FREE! I went to an outdoor Pearl Jam concert a decade ago (or more), the tour they refused to use Ticketmaster and was in the front row/mosh pit knockingheads with the youth of America!
When I see kids walking around with colored or punk hair or mohawks I just laugh to myself and think they should know what it felt like to be like that when it was first new to the world and not now, 30 years after Punk/New Wave hit the states! I also giggle at the long hairs as I grew mine down to my azz as well!
So when you see an old dude about 50 or so, just think about all the things he's done way before your time, way before its time and just imagine how cool he really must have been. BTW he may have known your mom!

Count me in as a fan of both genres, but grunge in particular has always appealed to me. It's the soundtrack of University for me and is the music I always find myself coming back to.

Count me in as adult who loves '90s grunge. Personally, any one who sees grunge as only being "based on teenage angst" has missed the boat entirely. JMHO. The four pillars of Seattle grunge (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and Soundgarden) were about a significant emotional depth and pain, and not at all "angst". The reason these bands resonate so strongly today is because what they had to say was legitimate, real and heart-felt. Now by comparison ... it was "80s hair metal" that was based on teenage angst. Most of us who were there grew out of that wayyy before Nirvana hit. Knowing we even vaguely listened to post-Pyromania Def Leppard, White Lion, or Bullet Boys ... not that's embarassing.

Celtic: If you were watching cartoons that were based on teenage angst, you shoulda flipped the channel to Bugs Bunny ... (j/k, man)

Your totally right.
Just a question that I've been needing to ask for a while, what is hairmetal???

I hate hairmetal. May it remain deceased! Its those spandex ballbags like Europe, Poison, W.A.S.P. etc who all sounded the exact same. Horrible stuff.

Please god no!!

We were gigging here a while back and a band from Tyrone were opening for us called Nice and Sleazy. They came out on stage with giant teased hair, tight pink spandex trousers etc and neon Ibanez's. We thought from what we read they might be the same as us, blues based hard rock (Led Zep, GN'R, Stones, Aerosmith).....but no, they were completely disgusting plus they couldnt play for 5h1t. Synthesizer player and everything sounding like Europe's on Final Countdown. We wanted to throw up!

They were called Nice and Sleazy so we ended up calling them 5h1te and Cheesy from then on.

Guess we should have researched our opener more back then!

Thats pretty much where I am. Occasional punk and soundgarden too. I still dig a few Ministry tracks out every now and again.

CC dont knock the pink mate. When I was 16 gigging with an elvis impersonator I had to wear this peach coloured trousers and jacket. Gotta agree with you on hair metal bands, no one I knew liked em. We were all slayer side of the spectrum or MSG and Maiden.
