I'm buying new strings for my electric guitar soon and I want to know the best kind of strings for blues rock like Led Zeppelin, Rush, Pink Floyd, and Eric Clapton. What would be the best gauge and brand?

This is one of those questions that if 30 people answer you will get 30 different answers.

String brand and gauge are a personal thing, best thing to do is just try out a bunch of different brands and gauges for your self.

But that would cost so much money.

A good way is to try different guitars with different strings at a local shop. Just play a bit and see if you like the sound.

I did not say go and buy them all at once. Get a small notebook, buy a set or two of strings. Put a set on the guitar, play it for a few weeks, keep notes of each brand and gauge, what you like or dislike about them, how long they sound good, etc.
I ran this experiment for over a year.

If you're one of those guys who only changes strings every few months it doesn't matter. They're dead after a couple of weeks anyway. Once they're stretched out and gunked up they all sound the same....bad, and it doesn't matter what brand they are at that point.

For me it's Ernie Ball Slinky's. I buy em bulk for about $3 a pack.
