The best thing to do is not shop by price alone and try a couple of amps out of your price range. You'll be amazed. The difference in quality between a HRD series amp and a DRRi is night and day. If you plan to do any gigging, I'd pass on the HRD series. My HRDlx spent a lot of time being repaired. The Blues jr. has pretty much the same design flaws. Billm has photos of a new Blues Jr with blown filter caps. They should last 20 years.

I do not gig. I ocassionally play with a drummer, bassist, or another guitarist. Sometimes we are all together. Mostly play alone with backing tracks.

Unfortunately price does play a major role in my decision. I was going to purchace a SCXD (I can walk out of the store with one tomorrow if I wanted). I did play up to the Blues JR and was blown away by the tone. My better half (wife) will have my *&^%# on a platter if I go any higher on price.

I have no doubt that the DRRi is one bad mama-jama amp, but out of my league. In my case it is more amp than I need. It is like driving in a crash-up derby with a brand new Jaguar.

That's a shame. Have you tried any other manufacturers? Peavey amps are made in the USA and are great sounding amps and are really affordable and reliable. I tried a Peavey Windsor Studio about a month ago and I was pretty impressed. It's a Class A amp and you can use a wide variety of power tubes without the need to rebias.
