Hi Fender Guitar fans,
I would appreciate your thoughts/advice--ever since I was lucky enough to attend the NYC Madison Square Garden "25th Anniversary Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame" Concert on Friday Oct 30,2009 and see and hear Buddy Guy and Jeff Beck play electric guitar---I WANT TO PLAY! I REALLY WANT TO PLAY!
Which Fender electric guiatar would you recommend to start out with for a BEGINNER PLAYER?
(not a high end price tag, please. I'm in low budget land right now. So, if you tell me the 'money is no object' AND THE LOWER COST MODEL as well, I'd truly appreciate it.)
Thank you in advance for your help.
And, play like you mean it!

By Beginner--figure no musical background --from 4th grade acoustic guitar playing many years ago, I can remember where the 'G', & G7" chords are....well, I know where the G chord is LOL...you could keep your finger there and strum to anything & it worked LOL. 8) [/i]

You need to put a ballpark figure out there, there is low budget, and there is low budget. If you know what I mean.

There are several different quality models, at different price points. depending on your price range, there are a few options.

Thank you--I understand....OK, so

Right now, preferred price point, as close to free as possible....for ex. I see a non-Fender, electric guitar for $99 at J&R Music in downtown Manhattan in NYC...you can see it on their website which is JR dot com. (no "&" needed)
BUT, I'D REALLY, REALLY LIKE TO START OUT WITH A FENDER ELECTRIC GUITAR....that's why I'm here, asking all of you for your help in suggestions for beginner Fender Electric guitars.

TIA-I appreciate your time.

Well, keep in mind you will also need amplification, and lead cords in order to plug in. There are several fender/squier starter packs, that you could look at.

there are several forum members from NYC I'm sure one or more of em will pop by, they'll be able to give you the lowdown of where you may snag a bargain locally too.

I would definitely go used, always a better value. I'd try and find a used MIM (Made in Mexico) standard which you can usually find for $200 or under in some cases. If you don't have to have the Fender name, go for a Squier, the vintage vibe ones are quite nice for the money.

Hiya.

Theres a few things you need to consider when buying a guitar.

You dont want to spend money on something that you may not stick with. For all the best intention in the world you may decide you'd be better at keyboards or sax or whatever.

You want a guitar that will be comfortable to play. You dont want to scupper your plans for guitar domination by trying to learn on something thats unplayable. You gotta give yourself the best shot at mastering it, so need half good gear.

I'd look to a squier strat. They range from £100 - £300. Sorry I dont know US prices for them.
You'll get a quality instrument that in reality is good enough for anyone. If you decide its not for you, you wont lose too much money.

Squier were the pioneer's of good budget guitars.

Theres a few NY dwelling members here. No doubt one of them will help you find a deal.

Thank you all so very much!! THANKS!!!

uk,nikinija--I did see a Squire -something guitar for $99 at the JR website i mentioned above.

12bars---w/the chimpanzee & guitar photo----I was so focused on electric guitar that I did not even think about an ---ugh---amplifier! So, thank you for your input....how do you like my electrical jargon pun?

oy....the electric guitar....cool, the amplifier may require a new nyc apt LOL
(apts tend to be small a lot of the time in nyc, but not always)

If any NYC folks are able to comment---I had heard some radio commercial from guitar center? or something like that for a sale on guitars? I'm tempted to go see the $99 Squier at J&R downtown in near future.....your thoughts are much appreciated.

GTG---OMG....thank you!!

I have just about no idea almost...of what you are telling me....you mean, can it be, that I could actually have a silent amplifier....I could play at home and not make a lot of loud sounds?
Am I in the ballpark of understanding this ? Thanks for helping me learn!! I appreciate it really!!

(yes, as dopey as this may sound to some, I am SO NEW AT ELECTRIC GUITAR, I am really asking this stuff)

I lived in a basement suite for a while, and couldn't play loud at all. i used one of these:
Image

you can play through headphones with it. it digitally models, or emulates(fakes) the sounds of many different amplifiers, and some effects.

you could probably find a used one for very cheap.

Oh and the picture of the chimp is actually a link!
