I got this guitar and I learned how to make it talk...

I heard Joe Perry say the same thing on 98 rock (My local rock station) while being interviewed by Pat Martin.(local DJ legend....)

I agree. I was supposed to see Aerosmith this summer and didn't get the chance. The show in Edmonton was less than a week after Steven Tyler fell off the stage and hurt himself. I was so excited to see them but more importantly Joe Perry. Aerosmith is too legendary of a band to use a replacement singer. It's not like you can find another person on this planet who could sound like him anyways. "Guns n Roses" was just in town and I use the quotation marks because Axl Rose and a bunch of guys is as much Guns n Roses as Aerosmith without Tyler. Don't do it guys!

It isn't Aerosmith without Tyler, period. The first time i heard dream on all those years ago when it first got air time, i knew that nobody sang like him. And he still kicks major posterior vocally today imho! The Smith without Tyler??!!

They were still Aerosmith to me with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay--it'll be Aerosmith without Tyler.

But then they haven't put out anything decent since Done With Mirrors.

The original band in most cases will be the better. Aerosmith without Steven Tyler is like Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant, Just Not The Same. If you can accept the new as it is and not compare it to the original then it's all good. Thank God i have most of thier albums.

Lead singers can be successfully replaced (IMO, Van Hagar was just as good as Van Halen - different but still good), but in most cases it just doesn't work.

To me, Steven Tyler IS Aerosmith. Even if they find someone that sounds like him (doubtful), it still won't be the same.

Personally, I think if you're replacing a lead singer, a band is better off NOT trying to duplicate "the voice". Take Journey for example. While Arnel Pineda sounds amazingly like Steve Perry (and makes for a great story ala the 2001 flick, "Rock Star"), it's still not the same and comes off as a cheap knockoff.

It's a tough spot to be in though. You've built a name (brand), but the product is different so what do you do?

But it seems odd that it's a temporary thing. Here's hoping for quick recovery for Tyler.
