I saw on Alan s saab's post that you weren't too fond with Dunlop wahs . I don't know if you're aware but there's a guy in the U.K. who makes kits faithful to the old Jen and Vox wahs his name is Stuart Castledine and he has the pots, inducters etc to do an upgrade. You can contact Stuart at: stu@wah-wah.co.uk I've found him to be quite knowledgeable and helpful.

Its a world of difference mate. Regular wah's are great things, them old ones are full of something mystical though.

Guitslinger.

Thanks mate. I forsee a lot of wah'ing at rehearsals from this day on.

Cheers, top bloke.

The difference in vintage Vox and Crybaby wahs is profound,I've been looking for years for a pot for my 66-67 Vox Clyde McCoy and couldn't find anything.Even tried Dunlops but they didn't come near to the original,I finally tracked down Pro Pots from Stuart Castledine in the UK but in North America you can get them through North Star Audio at www.northstaraudio.net or tomlanik@earthlink.net These pots have the same taper and specs as in the original Italian made pedals.

thanks, I'm gonna look into tryin' them out. Always in search of improving my tone and playin'. I've had my crybaby since the being, never thought of trying others. might be a good change for tone, playin' and motivation. :)

Be very prepared to pay, if you can find one. I saw a old Jen in NY on ebay, 4 days left to run and up to $135. Like I said they usually go for silly money. £3-400 for good clean examlples.

Very cool site, thanks! I have an 90's era Jimi Hendrix wah that is about ready for some modifications...I wonder if the US site will be updated soon.

That Jen wah in NY is also on NY CL for $130. I might just pick it up. Has the white fasel not the red or even rarer green though. With wahs it's all about the fasel :) and why cant Dunlop recreate that in their new models? That's a cheap part to add to the design...

Nice find. Havent they all the same value though? Does that mean that just the wrapper was changed? This forum needs an electronic engineer :)

Ooh good info here. Wish I was in the UK and could go to your guy...

I've always had a Wah on the floor, and a dirt box. For years I used Cry Babys but I wore the pot or the switch out in less than 18 months on every single one. Before you could buy replacement parts I'd just sell the worn out Wah and buy a new Cry Baby every year or two. Later I'd put a new pot and switch in.... it was a drag. I loved the peaky dirty sound of them, but was never happy with how much they passively sucked tone and how much they attenuate low freqs when on. I tried every wah known to humanity for a while and a couple of years ago settled on the Fulltone Clyde Deluxe. Mike Fuller goes to nerdish extremes to replicate the sound of the original Vox, very successfully, then makes the components bullet proof. He makes his own pots and switches, the pot is rated for 500,000 turns, compared to 10-15,000 on a Cry Baby... The switch is a heavy duty true bypass so there's no tone suck, and it doesn't gut the low end. Freakin pricey, but I love the sound. I know there's plenty of other great Wahs, but my search has ended. I just hope Fulltone are still around in a few years when I've worn this baby out :)

I myself play through a NuWa from Rosac, simpliest circuit in the world, no pcb, no inductor. I also have a Dunlop CB but the one from Rosac Wah has a greater range and no loss of volume at all, unlike the CB.

My own search for the ultimate wah is still on, being slowed down by my wallet mostly.
