As some of you may or may not have remembered, last July I attended the National Guitar Workshop in Austin. I had a lot of fun and I learned more than I ever thought possible in a week! And the highlight was that I got to see Jimmie Vaughan play and meet him. He even signed my Strat.

I was prepared to be disappointed this year for no other reason than last year was so much fun and they just happened to pick one of my favorite guitarists as guest artist. So today when I checked my email and saw that they had announced guest artists for this year, I wasn't particularly excited. That is, until I scrolled down and saw the words Hubert Sumlin - Austin TX! :D

I'm very tempted to run into my parents room and start jumping on their bed, but I don't think they'd appreciate that. So y'all are the first to know! The next six months are going to drag by like the week before Christmas...

Oh, by the way there is one Hubert Sumlin related question I've been meaning to ask. What kind of guitar is he playing is this picture?

Any chance you'll get to play with him? That would be cool!

No, It's Howlin' Wolf without a doubt. Hubert worked with him. He even tells a story of Wolf firing him on a job in front of a ton of people because Wolf said he was playing over him.

Have fun. I've seen him quite a few times and he's always great.

I wish that the powers that be would come up with a movie about Hubert and Howlin' Wolf...Hubert has a lot of stories to tell about the two of them..including the meeting of Wolf and Jimi Hendrix. Upon meeting Hendrix, Wolf told Hubert" I ain't sayin' nothin' to that MF'r.." Hendrix came up and asked if he could play his guitar. Wolf nodded and Hendrix picked it up, turned it over and started playing it with his teeth!" Wolf looked back at him big eyed and says "You Hired!!!"Hubert Sumlin in an interveiw-Guitar one(Blues Legends) Also talks about the time He and Wolf had some knock-down drag-out fights to which the Wolf knocked out his front teeth! Hubert, in my opinion, is one of the more colorful icons of the blues genre. When you meet him, you should ask him about his first wall guitar  .
You might hear the story of how his brother made a guitar out of baleing wire nailed to the wall. Not to mention the fistfights that would occur after Hubert started messing with it!
I must say i am a bit green at the fact of you meeting him!!!I hope you enjoy your meeting and hope even more you get to play with him!POST PICS!!!!!

From what i can see on my pics, it looks like the words Bartolini. As far as I can gather they now make pickups.

There's a movie called "Cadillac Records" that might interest some of you. It's not really historically correct, but the actors who play Muddy Waters, Wolf and Lil Walter are great.

It's a fun movie. Way better than the Buddy Holly story with Gary Busey playing a 70's big head Strat LOL.
