I have made a few excellent deals on Craigslist. You do have to watch out for bad deals too.

Yeah I'm on craigslist all the time.

I picked up a p bass clone last night for $30. There's pics in the p bass section if anyone wants to see it.

There's a MIM HSS strat on my local craigslist now for $200 I was looking at, but think I'll pass for now.

True! I had been scouring Craigslist for almost 2 months (all cities within a 3 hours drive)looking for a wolfgang (which is where I got mine), it just never occured to me to check the music city listings even though its just over 4 hours from me. :?

I have found one great ax on CL that was in Kansas and had to have the guy put it on ebay. Otherwise I have much better luck on the bay.

Has anyone had any success buying long distance/through the mail with C/L? At least on Ebay there's feedback and things to investigate some before sending away $$.

I bought my wolfgang via Craigslist, paid by paypal ( so I had some recourse should the guitar not arrive ) and had no problems at all. It helped that the guy had sold items thru ebay and I was able to check his feedback (although this deal was not thru ebay). It is possible, but I suggest being very careful i doing so.

I pretty much live on craigslist, since i've made many good sales and purchases there. In my experience, it's always been a buyers market, where traditionally, items for sale are offered at half, or at around half of the new price of the item. Most sellers are sensible, even great to do business with. I've even scored some insanely sweet deals over the years, and it really can be very helpful in acquiring top quality name brand equipment at excellent prices. The biggest heartbreaker i missed out on, was a mint high end taylor acoustic electric dreadnaught that sold in under an hour for the ridiculously low price of $200, by a unfortunate fellow hard up for quick cash. Quick phone or email response to offers, dealing locally in person with cash, and only doing long distance deals through paypal, are the way to go, to prevent being scammed. My latest score was my new sweetheart of a 97' USA case queen Strat, in minty fresh condition for $600. :D
