I know this might not be the right board for this, but anyway, waht do you think about the new gibson robot guitar? To me it looks like a vg strat without the different guitarsounds.

An other thing, I could not stand the videos on theire pagee. I might not be able to get the humor, I dont know, I just don't like it.

I think it's neat! :)
Although Gibson isn't really inventive to use led-lights in the knobs.
I think it might be a think to look forward to in the future :p

i think the tuning mechanism is really innovative, which makes up for the lack off different tones in the VG... my guess is that if you can afford that guitar, tone is not a problem for you, they most likely have a great amp.... i'd be interested to play it

What bothers me the most is that today's technology is taking the musician out of making music. Soon you won't have to know how to play the guitar to play the guitar. People who can't play a single instrument will be able to make music on any number of digital devices.

On one hand, it's good to open up the ability to make music to a wider crowd. On the other hand, no one is going to want to learn how to play a real instrument when they can just use some digital interface thats very intuitive.

Anyway, screw the Robot and buy a VG! Servo's? Come on!

I had that option for the longest time!
But realized that tradition is a thing to uphold! :)

I wonder if this is the same guitar they've been teasing everyone with for years. How many years of R&D did this take? Unlikely I'll have a CPU in my headstock any time soon.

Hehe, I guess Im not the only one who didn't like them. I even saw someone on the gibson forums reacting to them. :)

This is a different guitar model from the one I referred to above. I received my newsletter from Gibson and checked it out. First, I sat through the instructional video, then through the four video shorts, two of which bash the Strat. :x I've come to the conclusion it was designed to replace your guitar tech. Who knows what this thing will cost. None of the major online retailers have it listed yet.

NOTE TO FENDER: One video spoofs the movie "Psycho". I'm sure there is an FMIC registered trademark used in that video.

Also, I wouldn't compare this guitar to the Strat VG. Gibson makes a digital guitar, the HD.6-X that starts at about $4,000, and was the one I thought they were talking about. I thought it was discontinued since I hadn't heard anything about it since its intro.

No matter how high tech they make guitars, none will be more tonefull or more playable then my EJ strat.

I just read an article on msnbc.com that said the robot will be released on Dec. 7th (Pearl Harbor anyone?) and will run around $2500. First release will be about 4,000 units.

For that I can pick up 4 Highway One's and have each one tuned to a different tuning.

There is little discussion in the video or in the site about how it sounds other than you will become less tolerant of strings going sharp or flat. They didn't put the Burstbuckers in it, either. It has the old 490R and 498T p/u's that the old Standard had.

Maybe one day all new guitars will have features like this, but right now I'm skeptical.

I think the PR campaign is as significant as the guitar is. Isn't this the first time a big manufacturer has gone after another one in the media? I personally think the tongue-in-cheek jabs at Fender amount to harmless fun.

I wrote about it for Premier Guitar: http://magazine.premierguitar.com/Magaz ... uitar.aspx

Does anyone think Fender will participate in Gibson's invitation to trade a few jabs in the media?
