........went to Best Buy the other day and noticed that they are carrying fewer and fewer CD's (little to none relatively speaking)....I wonder how the word is getting out about new music / albums / CD's / bands etc?
Also, it seems to me that the youth of today are missing out on album cover art, reading liner notes while listening to tunes, etc.

It was tough enough for me to transition from album to cd but now it looks like nothing is what we've got. Is technology improving our lives are are we losing ourselves along the way?????

Hello?!?!? Hey....take out those earbuds and look up from that IPOD and listen to what I am saying!!!!!

I'm not out right against Itunes/Digital music buying because i'll admit it is nice to get just ONE song with out buying the whole album of a band you don't really like. But illegally downloading..... I'm proud to say I don't do it or encourage it! I'm also proud to say I save 10-20$ a month for CD's. I think it's a way cooler and better format.

I'm not old enough to have used vinyl but thinking about it makes me think i'd like it. It's like a cd but with a bigger album cover. It seems like it would be more like a piece of art than a digital file with a little idy bity Pixalized Album cover in the corner of your itunes window is.

Buy CD's and don't illegally download!

Beaubs,
I hear you, but I have converted to the ipod. It is nice to be able to carry all my music with me on my ipod and not have to be limited by space that cd's or albums take up. I do miss the cover art and liner notes...that was always my most favorite part of getting a new album back in the day!

Im an iTunes nut, I've got all of my cds on it, Im now starting to put all of my albums on there as well. As for downloads... I have a few, but I really rather have an Album. Even a cd lacks all the artwork and liner notes... But back to itunes and ipod, it is a really cool thing to have all of your music in one handy package.

Agreed, I have a ton of music, and I love having it all handy and portable. I have just started to burn down some of my vinyl too. there weren't too many options for players with the capacity to hold all my music.

I play my ipod at work a lot, probably to the chagrin of some of my coworkers, so the convenience is excellent. The stereo at work isn't good enough to really notice any kind of drop in sound quality.

Don't get me wrong, i have a killer stereo at home, I routinely break out the old vinyl. But there is a huge convenience upside to the digital revolution.

I still buy vinyl, and some cds once in a while, but I also have a bunch of songs on my iPod and my old Creative Zen Micro, which I somehow have to convert to be able to put it on my Mac. I bought an ART USB Phono Plus to convert my vinyl...as soon as I figure out how to use it

Beaube,
Take heart. During my last BestBuy outting I was happy to see all the new and new old vinyl that's hitting the store. Everything old is new again-except me.
Cheers,
John.E

Many people, myself included, prefer the sound of the old vinyl albums. There is just something missing in the digital formats.

Nothing was like vinyl but I had no problem phasing into CDs. As I have stated many times my brother has been collecting vinyl for 50 years. I was just over his house last week and the whole middle floor is taken up with cabinets of LPs and they eat up so much space.

I think the music industry as we know it is going to get totaly phased out if they dont do something fast. I think the web has really crippled it to the point it is on a respirator. I had said this last week and I will say it again that artist are getting ripped off with all this downloading and I think it is wrong.

It has come to the point that you cant even find any new artist .Everyone has a website and that method just is not cutting it. On the other hand we have American Idol which is producing fluff music. I am really starting to believe this is the end.
