The new Duo Jet reissues are real nice but I'd go for the Tennessee Rose, the remake of the Tennessean but go for an older one with the HiLo Tron pups instead of the Filtertrons as the original Tennessean had HiLo Trons. If you're the slightest bit into the Beatles you gotta getta Gretsch, but if you're not,it's a cool guitar to have anyway, the sound is unique and addictive and the action is sweet.

I have the same guitar as Claude, and you should take his advise about not bringing your credit card to the guitar store. Suprisingly light for it's size and extremely comfortable to play. The stock pups are fine, lots of different tones to be found in a clean amp.
The fun starts with the reverb/tremolo mixes. Duane Eddy, Brian Setzer George Harrison etc. and the Bixby works just fine, doesn't knock the guitar out of tune and the arm stays put, no slapping around and getting in the way.
The Orange is a Gretsch signature and I'm more than happy with mine, that said I saw one in Walnut the last trip to GC and was tempted, but my current gassing is for a Jazzmaster.

Let us know the result, (post photos)

I actually spent some time on the gretsch forums earlier. Too many beautiful guitars over there!

The one Will P posted was a sexy beast for sure!

I'd love either the Tennessean or its cousin rose, slinger! But... I'm actually looking for something on the cheap this go round, and from what i've seen the 5120 has a quite a following with the mod heads (I love modding my stuff!), which also adds to its appeal.

Keep the input coming!

Hi Steve, my suggestion go long term ,rumors of fender u 3 in aug ,were spinning around the show . How much is it worth to make your wildest dreams come true ,pick up any Gretsch, Jackson, Charvel, or anything else FMIC makes at cost lower than you retail shop can get them at ,and go to NAMM next year and actually be a member of the Fender Family.
Anyone from F.U. can vouch for my words. It is the gift that will never forget. MY ADVICE HOLD OUT AND SAVE YOUR MONEY

Excellent advice Paul! I was unaware of a pending Fender U! How long does the U last? I'm extremely busy in August and days off are nigh none existant (even though I own the company :? ) still sounds like a worth while pursuit all the same!

An excuse to make the trip to next years NAMM is just icing on the cake!

I would love to hear more about this if anyone has more details!

BTW Congrats on taking the plunge with the Rock and Roll Cafe! I might have to plan a trip to AZ when things get cranking! Best of luck!

Well I has a simillar experience over 20 years ago as I wanted the guitar Brian Setzer played as I loved what he could do with it. Well when I found a used one in Sam Ash I almost bought it without even plugging in.Well was I shocked to find out that it was just not for me. I sat there two hours trying to mesh with it but it just felt real weird. Funny how I read an interview with Setzer years later and he said the same about solid bodies. So check it out good first .

Always good advice Stray! Try before ya buy! And that is something I'm concerned about. I never could get into acoustic guitars. I've owned several but never kept one very long. Never met one with action liked. I recently parted ways with an ovation that was tolerable, but not likable. I'm hoping I dont experience that with the Gretsch cause it would be without a doubt a deal killer. No point in paying for a guitar I know I wont play!

I've always wanted to see someone take that approach to a RI series! Clever!

hollow body or semi-hollow as long as you post pics. I ate a pizza before going to sleep the other night and had a nightmare, I was playing a strat (made in mexico) the only amp available was mesa M-9 carbine with two cabs both contained two 15"s so I was pushing some air, I had one pedal, a tube screamer and I couldn't not sound like Jimi, the sustain woke me up. I haven't been able to stop wondering if that is what will happen if I plug a strat into a tube screamer through a monster bass amp stack with 15"s. whatever you decide all thumbs pics will be cool.

I bought a TS-9 for myself for X-mas! Took it back 3 days later. Didnt like it at all. I'll be sticking with the fuzz face.

Pics are a given SB!
