First thanks for adding thanks for us non-US residents/citizens.

But I do believe you got this part backwards--it's not the British (and canadians) who add the letter u to words for no logical reason--it's Americans who take the letter u out of words for no logical reason.

Anyway--I did give thanks for inclusion in the contest in the contest thread, but sure, I'll add it here again.
Especially as it allowed me a chance to make the "remark" about "u"
The whole 'U' thing had to do with pragmatism and convenience, believe it or not!

I believe it..
The thing is it was easier and more convenient to use the silent letters in the first place.

That really was a great job Brad, as a lot of our brothers on the other side of the pond are so vital to the forum and it just seemed wrong they were not included.

Excuse me?!

The whole world used to drive on our side of the world till the French revolution decided to switch that (and many other things) around for the heck of it. Napoleon then exported driving on the right around Europe, while America, having recently had a "revolution" themselves, decided to immitate the French.

So America drives the French way - how do you all feel about that...?

Obviously our way, on the left, is the sensible one. When on horseback we meet sword-hand to sword-hand - and that is so important in this day and age...

PS Regarding competitions - I won third prize in the first ever Forum competition. So I have absolutely nothing but enthusiasm for internationalism in these matters... Thanks Brad! :D

Thanks Brad for a contest that includes us!

just for fun you guys should give us a contest only open to those of us outside the US, but pub it here, so they can all know what it feels like!!

That's actually a really good idea! Will keep it in the mind for the future. :-)

that IS a great idea!

and a big thank you to all the US Fender forums members who think about the non-US people around here! :D

Hey Ceri,
Just remember 2 things (our weapons are three....amongst our weapons are fear, surprise, etc.)
1) The sun set on the British Empire many years ago
2) As we say here, "It's my way or the highway
3) As John Cleese once put it "I fart in your general direction!"
4) How may tourists get killed in London each year by looking in the wrong direction before crossing the street?
Just kidding about the farting and the rest...
Serge
P.S. I was born in Paris.

Ah, you might think that, but sadly it is very few. My city gets 25 million visitors a year who stand around gawping in great bovine crowds and making it tiresome for inhabitants to go about their business. We'd love to think that a few of them could be culled crossing the road but in truth it seldom works out that way.

We have a points system for bringing down tourists based on the offensive loudness of their legwear, but it can be difficult in practice. They have tour-leaders who are skilled in snatching them out the way of moving vehicles at the last moment. It's getting so I can hardly remember the last time I got a really fine points score.

Still, it's good sport.

BTW: you were born in Paris? Try crossing the road on the Champs-Elysees and see what happens. Now there's a nation that really savours the slaying of visitors, regardless which side of the road you think they should be driving! My respect to our fellow French Forum users...

I don't know about London, but here in Vegas they had to build pedestrian bridges for them to safely cross the Strip. I think we were averaging 2-3 fatalities a month beforehand.
