I need one to play a "Brothers in Arms" by Dire Straits. What's the best cheap one? Maybe a $50 limit.

A lot of player seem to like Ernie Ball Volume pedals, though there are many brands out there as previously mentioned...

is there much of a difference in quality between an ernie ball and a cheap little $30 pedal?

Check out pawn shops in your area,you may find a good used Ernie Ball which would be better than a cheap new one.
