That is the best description of true musicianship I ever heard. I am very impressed. :)

There are so many great solos I love and I have been listening a long, long time.

Some that come to mind:

Bell Bottom Blues - E.C.

Black Napkins - Zappa

Because We've Ended As Lovers - Beck

Smooth - Santana

Midnight at the Oasis - Amos Garrett (Jimmy Page put this solo on an endless tape loop and had it playing non-stop at his mansion.)

I have to say "Crossfire" by SRV. I like most of his other songs a lot too, but "Crossfire" is kind of a "classic" for me....

I have many favorites, but 2 come to mind
1) Reelin' In the Years - Steely Dan
2) Diamond Head from 801 Live - Phil Manzanera

There are so many to pick from, many already mentioned. I'm going to go with my top three:

Hendrix: Hey Joe
Clapton: Crossroads
Santana: Jingo

A lot come to mind, but if I had to be stuck on the proverbial desert island with only one, it would be Dave Mason's "Alone Together" album cut "Look At You, Look At Me". I never get tired of hearing it.

Wow, there sure is a lot of good ones listed there. All my faves have already been taken so I think, just to throw a wrench in the works, I'll risk thread derailment and mention an awesome sax solo, Phil Kenzie's tasty work on Al Stewart's Year Of The Cat and an awesome vocal solo (without lyrics), Clare Torry's damned fine aria on Floyd's Great Gig In The Sky.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

It changes almost daily but right now I'm liking Soulshine by The Allman Brothers Band and Scarlet Begonias by The Grateful Dead, specifically from the Winterland 1977 Show. 8)

My favorite would have to be Santana. The Earth's Cry Heaven's Smile solo is just amazingly awesome. 8)

Another Brick in the Wall Part 2 (Pink Floyd)

I don't know what it is about that solo but I could listen to it a million times (probably have).

Here's another one I find cool: Ramblin Man from The Allman Brothers, its got a nice country swing to it and there's an "all right" just at the right moment in the solo ...

Nice.
