I tried a Planet Waves PW one, leant to me by a friend..

I thought it was a great tuner and nearly prime for stage use. It responds to the vibration of the guitar when a notes struck, or thats my understanding.

One niggle. I found it gives too pure a pitch, because its entirely tuned to resonance. I.E what the tuner understands as the note isnt necessarily what comes through the pickups. Nothing major at all, but I do remember the B string needed a slight bit of sweetening. It was a Gnats kneecaps worth, nothing to complain about.

Niki, though I agree with you on tweaking by ear, I find I have to do that with any tuner i have ever used, do you find it is more of an issue with the clip on?

I use a tuning fork.
Key of "A".
Never needs batteries.
Always works.

Twelvebar

Its not really that it needed tweaking more. It was on my tele which I'd designed my own nut for. It seemed to really make the difference startling just on that B string.

Add to that I never use tuners really. I'm far more of a 'Give us a E mate?' fella.

Bad habits eh?

I'm the same way. i tune up, then I occasionally check against a tuner. I usually ask for an A. I used to use a tuning fork like old school, I didn't get a tuner until I started playing out, and needed something for the stage.

i have friends that have played for 15-20 years that need a tuner, sad really.
