I had a big giant political rant typed up and deleted it. I'm glad I did. It would have stirred a huge pot and not in a good way.

Reading this and many other posts within this thread- I am going to hold my tongue.

I will say this however- I would love it if any of you guys would spend 12months in my country, and get an 'outside looking in' view of what is going on in some of your nations.
I have spoken to many an exchange student who has spent time here- and they all tell me the same thing, and they never want to go back home.

as for the comment of Bush- well, It reminds me of the Tsunami in indonesia many years ago, as you will remember many thousands of innocent lives perished. Did Bush come to the aid- considering that a U.S Navy Carrier was just a few hundred miles from the impact zone? No. Well, not untill he was reminded by other nations of the aid that was given and the help recieved from 9/11. Then that carrier made a quick turn to give help, and the USD$35million all of the sudden turned into $350million.

Never mind they expected us to go to war unjustified, and never mind Oil prices shot through the roof- and the financial recession... let's not get started.

Even for tragic scenarios, some nations (and Im not just talking about one) will ask WIIFM? before they take action.

Sadly, you are more concerned that these 'ungodly' people will tarnish your neighbourhood, and will cost you tax payers money. That just really is sad and narrow minded.

I do respect you guys, its just a small few that really set it off for me. I do apologise in advance if this thread gets locked (eeek!! )

BlackCatBone- Your story about being in Peru during an earthquake is amazing. What was your business there, did you complete it? How did you feed and hydrate yourself during such great lack and need?

Also, what field are you searching for work in? Maybe someone here knows of an opportunity.

I will donate to Haitian relief as well. Matching funds, at least. :)

I was working for a professional soccer team at the time and living with the family of my fiance at the time. We lived in Lima which is several hours North of where the seriously destruction was. We travelled down there the morning after the earthquake with 4 trucks loaded to the gills with supplies, food, water and tools and stayed down there a few weeks cleaning up and rebuilding. We also managed to raise a lot of money back in the city to donate to the relief efforts.

My line of work is whatever will give me enough to pay the bills. Given the current situation with employment in the USA one has to be willing to accept nearly any job he can find. Ideally I would be working in advertising and PR again, but that isn't a reality right now. I'll be headed back down South again in a week and most likely setting up shop down there until (hopefully) things get better in the USA.

ONLY if you get to them before they get to the US. The Americanization of a Latina (or most immigrants) is a terrible terrible thing.

I have no idea what you're talking about here SBLS, you are not making any sense at all. Who on earth is Laverne and Shirley, and what is the Ragu?

Sorry, but the worlds opinion on the US foriegn policy, financial stability and now the response & attitude to desperate nations in need, is to the point where credibility is questioned.

Then again, I guess your media doesnt get told to portray it that way.

Like I said, I would love it if some of you guys spent 12months here. You would gain so much perspective and you will be richer for it too.

It's on the 6 o'clock news every night, there are no assumptions or critisisms. just observations.

Your seem defensive on the matter, and I am very sorry for my lack of manners.

I read this in a book, I cannot remember which one. It went on to say that this is why the Hatians practice Voodoo instead of pure Christianity or Satanism.

With this said...I do not wish to comment on this disaster, regardless where it happened, it did happen.

B, Laverne and Shirley was a sit-com in the '70s were the two leads competed on camera for face time and the big Ragu was the storied hero and when on camera became a three way comp for the camera as well as for the others... well to me the the news is a sitcom less about the actual news than the talking heads. when that happens (discussing news)on the Forum I just tried to wake the conversation up, bring it back to reality using a theatrical directors caution that if you aren't off book (know your lines) at the first performance your pay could be docked, they make mistakes (don't know their lines) all the time on the news, if you do that out here in real life it could cost you. I get involved in these topics too and did not know I came across as defensive on the matter, sorry, Bro.

I've never been outside the U.S. (or Texas for that matter, expect for a few weekend trips to Louisiana), but my heart goes out to the people of Haiti. Now isn't the time to debate politics or to play the blame game. The fact that people are dying as we do so makes bickering seem even more pointless. There's nothing liberal or socialist about spending money on saving people's lives. Sure, we could keep all the aid money for ourselves, but I promise you that the poorest and sickest people in America are 100 times better off than the poorest and sickest in Haiti right now.

I thought the aftermaths of Katrina, Rita, and Ike were bad. Seems like a walk in the park now.
