Nah, I'm trying to forget the 80's - the decade when hairdressers ruled the earth. No poodle perm no hit.
Plenty of hits in that decade were shred free anyway.

Early 80's weren't bad but spent alot of years listening to tapes waiting for it to be safe to tune in the radio.

and the lespaul- its a signature signature- a double whammy with a bucket of chicken...

Now you cannot beat that!

Okay, just to dispell the myth that all he does is shred... Even my grandmother loves his mellow stuff. Take a listen;

In fact, nearly half of his output contains no shred whatsoever.

Grandma has good taste :)

This incredably beautiful and yet sad and lonely. I'm sorry for those that can't see through the "weirdness" but these are the same shreds only played slower. I read that most shreds start out as slow riffs and they only become shreds with time and practice.

Great add for Fender. I think that one is pretty much in tune. He played every note on the fret board.

Nice guitar Fender!

the guy can throw down - I admire him for playing what he wants to play and for going solo !
I think he helps keep guitar instrumentals alive - so mo power to him

I saw him in concert once, he really is insane player.

I had never really listened to his stuff before this thread…not bad; I’m digging a lot of it. Dude sure is bizarre but that seems to be common in the music industry, shock sells….Alice Cooper, kiss, Wasp, Marilyn Manson, king Diamond to name just a very few. Find your niche and exploit it; milk it for all you can because real soon there will be someone along that will make you look tame in comparison….

Yeah there is a lot of shred but it at least has more soul to it than other shredders like Malmsteen, Vai, and the like…..
I had read in an interview some time back when he was working on the Guns and Roses (20 years wasted) Chinese Democracy or whatever its called that they had a hard time getting him to work…. Seems per the interview if he did not have the raunchiest of porn flicks playing in the booth with him he could not play in any creative sense at all…. I don’t know if that’s true or not but much stranger things happen in the music industry every day….

Ozzy Osbourne wouldn't take him because of how weird he is

now If Ozzy Osbourne thinks you're too weird that makes me think you might have a problem somewhere

But from what I've heard he's is at least a decent guitarist, just not my style

Welcome to the forum Bob!

He is decent but hard to pigeonhole. Thats a good and a bad thing really but he's not my cup o' tea either.

Bucket Head walked into the meeting with Ozzy wearing an alien mask after Ozzy told him not to bring his mask.

Ozzy asked Bucket Head what his real name was and he said Brian (Carol) but that only his mother called him that. So Ozzy said "Well make believe I'm your @#$% mother!"

Somehow I don't think that approach was the right way to go about it.

I've read that BH is also a drifter and doesn't stay anywhere for too long. Maybe that sounds odd now but people used to do that a lot. So before we go out and cast judgement on someone we should walk in their shoes or better yet listen to what they have to say.

You'd get amazed at what people will tell you if you take the time to listen :)

Yep, Bucket basically told Ozzy to go f*ck himself.

He also auditioned for the Chili Peppers, but lost the gig because he'd never heard one of their songs before lol.

He didn't fit the old band's style, but for the sound Axl wanted for new GNR, he fit the band like a glove. I don't think Chinese Democracy would have ever been finished if Bucket didn't join.

I just don't get him. I wish I could get into his playing but shred is something that looses it's appeal for me in about 10 seconds. There's no doubt that he's an amazingly talented artist and I wish I had even 10% of his skill. What I don't understand is why this strange, lonerish type of guy who has the opposite attitude of a major group keeps auditioning for these groups. He isn't the type of guy who fits into a band setting.
