I'll reserve judgement until I hear it. It is Jimi we're talking about

It would be great if the album contained all previously unheard tracks but what Janie hendrix seems to be doing is using previously released tracks as filler so that she'll be able to release more "new" albums,a good money making scheme for sure. You can rest assured that the next release will be of the same format. My opinion of Janie hendrix hit rock bottom with the cynical, completely mercenary release of the ill-planned and fated Gibson Hendrix "Strat".This release just continues to fortify my opinion,I won't be buying it on a matter of principle ,no matter how much I love and idolize him and his music,I refuse to further line her pockets.

I completely agree though its hardly fair to lay all the blame on just lamey Janey. Hendrix was used and pirated by everyone his whole life. From Curtis Knight, Mike Jeffreys and Chas Chandler through to his useless dad and half sister.

The only safe bet is that the material hendrix wanted us to hear was what he released during his lifetime. The fact that the majority of us missed that time is our hard cheese. The only posthumous release I do agree with was the BBC recordings, they were broadcast while he was alive. Just think in another 7 years they will be in the public domain.

Crash Landing wasnt bad, neither was rainbow bridge or the unfinished cry of love album. They weren't up to the standards of his official releases though. I'm sure he wouldnt have wanted them released.

in my minds eye what bothers me the most is that no one seems to have made the breakthrough after him... he was the last one somehow... :(

Hey Baby(New rising sun) from Rainbow Bridge and Angel from Cry of Love were 2 beautiful songs that everyone should have on their ipods etc. the Leslie/Univibe sound still gives me goosebumps.

I'll buy it. I'm quite excited for it, actually. In the very least, like them or not, the Hendrix Estate is keeping Jimi's name out there - and that's alright with me. Bootleg, "milking," whatever have you - we all know which albums give you the real-deal Hendrix Experience when you need it. And let me tell you something - I take my Hendrix in daily doses. :)

Here is the title track in case you haven't had a chance to hear it.
Although they are saying it is his transition period, it sounds like classic Hendrix to me.
The album is supposed to be out next week.

The ridiculous thing is he has been dead for 40 years how could there be anything new? Anything that was not released by now must not have been worth releasing!

The previews sounded pretty good, so I'll probably buy it sooner or later.

You two are taking the words out of my mouth. The Jimi Hendrix story is quite a sad one really. A man surrounded by people with very few friends. The only people to really make any money from him really didn't deserve any of it. I agree with what someone said before though and I will be happy to pirate it. :D

A lot of people think that janie hendrix is Jimi's half sister, the fact is that she is barely his step sister because I'm not sure that Al(Jimi's "loving" father)ever officially adopted her. There is absolutely no blood connection between janie and Jimi, what galls me the most is that none of his surviving blood siblings get one cent and all except one were born with disabilities, the able bodied brother has battled a lifelong problem with addictions, strange that she ignores her other "brothers and sisters" I guess they didn't have what it takes to earn her devotion....money.

Sorry to bring this burried thread back to life, but I just wanted to say that I picked up Valleys of Neptune yesterday and I am enjoying it completely. There is a good deal of stuff I have not heard on the album (though, admittedly I have not heard a whole lot of the bootleg stuff out there) and new studio polished versions of a few old favorites. It really is wonderful. IMHO

Also, I will be attending the Hendrix Tribute Tour this Sunday in Denver with a few friends. I am very excited!

:D Hoping to pick it up tomorrow. I agree, the whole marketing angle becomes distasteful. Having said that, I doubt that anyone who had the rights to Jimi's estate would put the stuff out there for free. As someone else said, Jimi was used and pirated his entire life. At this point, I look at it like I would the work of any great master, from a painter to a musician - it is Jimi, and so if someone is inclined to want to hear the songs, it's good that they are out there to be heard. At least they are calling it what it is (a bunch of songs from a particular period of time, or something), instead of some nonsense like "the album he always wanted to make." It is what it is. The title track sounds really cool.
I really like First Rays of the New Rising Sun, which they put out in the nineties and which represents the songs Jimi intended for an album after Electric Ladyland. Some great, great songs on there.

What janie hendrix is doing is as ghoulish as grave robbing, she's getting filthy rich from something she has no "moral"rights to,although she has legal rights it still does not make it right.I will be pirating a copy so at least I'll have the satisfaction of ripping her off as she continues in death what happened to Jimi in life..those supposed to be closest to him ripping him off.To think that she got all this and only met him twice what a lucky"sister".
