Been playing bass for the last 5 years (guitar for 29 before that). During the past 6 months I have been getting a pain in my index fingertip when I fret the strings. Feels like a b.b. in my fingertip and the pain feels sharp. Comes and goes. Any ideas what this is and how to stop it? I have switched to a lighter guage string and have had the finger x-rayed. Nothing abnormal showed up on the x-ray.

Thanks for any help or advice you can give me.

Sound s like you may have hit a nerve wrong.. this happens to me now and again…the only thing I can do is stop for a week and let it get better….

I wonder if it's a synoidial cyst. Not sure if they appear at the tips of fingers. If it is, it can be removed, cheaply.

Good luck with treatment, John.
