Kinda stuck here.

I'm not a guy who can read it out of a book, I am self taught.

I did learn scales from a book and have a chord dictionary that I use.

Just wondering if anyone here has a good method.

Detune your guitar to something completely random, find something that sounds good and figure out what you've played.

Tune into a radiostation that plays music your unfamiliar with and play along. Suss out the song before the songs ended. Its great ear training too.

Yeah, If your a blues guy, cop you some jazz backing tracks or anything that's completely at the other end of your musical spectrum and lay into them for while.......works for me.......... 8) Mike

Take the steve vai and the Satch approach, Write a song everyday in a set Genre. I had a friend who played Jazz on a monday, metal/shred on tuesday, early indie on a wednesday, punk/classic rock on a thursday, alternative on a friday, blues on a saterday and classical on a sunday (Although he spend most sundays recovering from the Saturday night....)

Its the best way of developing yourself

Take a break. Walk away from it for however long it takes until you again feel 'inspired'.

I agree, take a little break, but not too long of a break. If more than a couple weeks goes by without playing, go on to youtube or something, type in "learn..."whatever. I am sure there is a vid for a song you've always wanted to play. Watch it, see if you can go along with it. By the time you learn the song, hopefully you will be re-inspired to play again.

I listen to different groups and styles, and play along with them, while trying to pick up their different strumming styles, leads and riffs. I don't read music or tabs, never learned. I started out with records (you can imagine the shape they're in), thank god for cds.

I still have a huge vinyl collection and it grows at least every week.

Hey Playing is like an addiction to me, its the one drug that I can'y live without and its safe, no harmfull side effects except for the rapid weight loss of my wallet region that occurs when I get the Gas attacks.

So taking for than maybe two days off would cause massive withdrawels sic..

Bro, if you figure it out let me know, I was supposed to have the lyrics for two songs by rehearsal tomorrow and I only have one verse for each and chorus. This doesn't happen to me often, so, let me know Bro, 'cause this is not a good time for it to be happening.

Great advice by everyone. Usually I would just take a short break and go listen to some music and then I would just hear something and go I have to learn that. So maybe just put the ax down and go listen.

I've been in a rut from Christmas time to just a week ago. What I usually do to get out of a rut is to practice like a maniac. I've been doing a good solid 3-4 hour a day workout everyday for the last week learning a bunch of songs in a bunch of styles and I feel like I'm back. :D Sometimes playing something different than whatever it is you normally play helps get you excited about playing again.
