Guys is it real to get the character (not the exact match) of SRV sound on basswood body and 1-piece maple neck stratocaster?

I also got custom amp based on Fender champ with celestion V30, tone controls, bright switch, 1 channel. Also I got custom tubescreamer.

What settings should I use to get closer to SRV?

Please don't write things about heavy strings, attack and so one because I don't wanna play exactly as SRV but I've seen numerous videos of guys with very close srv sound.

You should probably contact the people that did the video. They are usually very helpful. Also look for a Fender Champ forum. From what I see here there are no specific amp forums which is probably why you chose the lounge for your question. But unless there is a user here that is an SRV fan and plays through a Champ you probably won't get an answer.

Hope you've already bought the TexMex pickups. That is a big part of his sound. A quality pickup can have a dramatic effect on your sound.

The only issue I see with the bass wood is that the strings go dead fast but that can be alleviated changing strings.

I think SRV also tuned down a half step to E-flat and used 13's to get his tone. I saw him play thru a vibrolux amp at the channel in Boston, back in, around 1981 or so.

Yeah, SRV did indeed tune down half a step to E-flat.

I'm not positive, but I don't think SRV used Tex Mex pups.

Stevie's pickups (in his #1 Strat) were real vintage '59s. Fender created the Texas Specials (after his death) to emulate his sound. I have Texas Specials in my Strat and I can get in something similar to SRV using them. Although to be honest, tweaking your amp settings make just as much of a difference as pickups do. So does tuning to Eb, and if you haven't already tried hold your pick upside down and play with one of the corners of the fat end. Picking that way can also help with speed and accuracy, and it's good for SRV style raking.

Tex Mex pickups are also over wound, or hotter than vintage single coils but they sound distinctly different than Texas Specials. They sound brighter and clearer to me, the Texas Specials seem to have more bass and are warmer. Either of them will work for what you're after, it's just a matter of which type of sound you prefer.

Tex Mex pickups were created for Jimmie Vaughan by Fender, and they're still what he uses. SRV never used Texas Specials, and the extent of his collaboration with Fender probably didn't go very far beyond "I like really big necks and I'd like pickups with more bass".

In addition to Texas Specials and Tex Mex pickups, look into Fender 57/62's and Fender Fat 50's. I haven't actually played a guitar with either of those, but from what I hear they also have great blues tone. :)

On your amp but the bass at full, the treble at half and the mids at 1/4 with a touch of reverb and use the neck pickup... that should get close to the Texas Flood type sound and for other songs like Tightrope use the middle pickup. Does the amp have a 12" speaker? Anything smaller and you won't get that nice full sound. The louder that amp the closer you'll get.

Yes my amp has 12' speaker Celestion vintage 30, no reverb. Pickups are also good and new - Kinman AVn Blues set.

That guy at steviesnacks really plays cool and sounds very close. Think should ask him.

OK done, won't mention the couple of pedals and setup that would help get closer.

Viewing Antony's setup at StevieSnacks.com way back when he used a BJ might help.

Alot of people do not realize how clean Stevie played, so chuck out everything other than a tubescreamer and wah though he did use a few other pedals later on that is not important. In fact he used two tube screamers on the floor. The biggest part of getting down the right sound of Stevies tone is technique believe it or not.He was such a master of right and left hand muting so you really have to work on that. You ever notice when he solos how much of the time he is hitting all six strings yet only the single notes are sounding out. it is extremely hard to do correct. Even his shuffles he is hitting all six strings and muting out everything but the bass line to give it that chunk a chunk a chunk a sound, then also letting the open strings ring.

While Stevie's Pick Ups were original, they weren't really original. They were re-wrapped several times over the course of his career. Which is what the Texas Specials are emulating, his over wound '59's.

A big part of his recorded sound is running several different Amps together.
