I'm sure a lot of you guys have had embarasing moments while playing live and I'm also sure there have also been a lot of topics on it. Well I had my seconde one yesterday.
The whole show I was tryin to keep my bands moral up cause we were playing in front of a tone of intimidating older guys. Any way we go on and play and the show goes as usual, we kinda suck but no one boos us. So we play our set (3 songs) and I'm really feeling... Over confident. And if I learned any thing from my first embarasing moment this usualy when I mess up. So were done and I hear BASS SOLO!!! I'm just thinking wow cool! Look at my drummer (who always tries to get me to do them) and he nods. So I go and do a "bass solo".... Yikes that sucked. I've done solos in my bedroom but not live or with my band. It did the crapiest atempt at a solo I've ever heard and actualy hear people laughing.
I try to keep cool, for an hour I sat there felling like an idiot and I gethome and scream into a pillow.
Well I'll never do that again! I'm not giving up seeing as how no one was really mocking me or anything. Lol realy ruined the show for me... :)

Hey will. I've had a few bad ones in my time too. Don't even think about it. Chances are you heard those laughs in your head cos thats what you were expecting. I freak myself out sometimes wi those.
I'm sure the show was fine!

Keep her lit!

Did any of the audience who laughed get up on stage and do better ? Its no big deal and we learn from our mistakes. At least you were up there and gave it your best shot which is more than others would do.

I'm still working on just overcoming how nervous I feel when playing in front of people... lol The first time I ever played guitar in front of a crowd I blacked out and had to slouch down on my amp to keep from falling over...

You probably did great :) Just remember you're the only guy up there with the skills to play

Will,
Keep your chin up lad. This should make you feel better. My old band had scheduled a big single release party...we were playing the Triangle theatre in Rochester NY and we had the place sold out...lable execs were there and man there was a lot of excitement...We go to open the show and somehow the wrong set list was set on my monitor...you guessed it everyone else in the band was playing a different song than I was... In a case like that just drive on and have fun..:)

I used to be in a alternative rock band and the drummers grandad asked us to do his 70th birthday......

Funily enough we got the crowd going but we had to finish the set half way threw because some of the older people were fed up of the noise we were making.

Oh well :?

Keep playing, and one day that bass solo will work...

My first time playing guitar in front of an audience was much worse than what you describe.

We played two songs--both sucked--on one I forgot the chords, so I turned down the volume and faked it--trying to stay in time on my strumming, so it at least looked decent. (We had two other guitars)

This was when I was taking lessons, for a competition.

It took a while before I could listen to those songs without cringing.

But a couple of years later the band I was in for that year's competition was the crowd's overwhelming favorite--all the other bands thought we played the best as well. It was night & day.

Stick with it, and learn from it--it gets better if you do.

Too many to remember Will, but here is the most recent:

Thanks for coming Bros! just kidding! good show I butchered my own song (I made the set list and put it first, got Rob and Frankie mad, ha ha ha, just kidding) I like singing it played flat the whole song first time on that stage, excuses right? the opener didn't show up laryngitis, second band Felon Love hot Glam Rock outfit girl drummer (hard hitter, good meter, very hot) girl bass player, Bro on guitar and Bro frontman. then us. applause and cheers every song (lucky right) except mine, dead silence after my song I was so glad I didn't bury it in the set. Then Bang Tango '80s rock with a kick and a whole lot more, I really like that style and said to those guys we'd like to play with them again, both bands. they brought a good crowd many mamasitas caliente, we only had three ladies there, and, one of them was a bartender there, which was a good thing, and, they still paid us. I love Bang Tango. Were where you guys? just kidding!

the longer you play, the gigs that you feel don't turn out so well will disappear, except once in awhile stuff does happen so enjoy it cause it keeps you rehearsing.

Hi Will: played a solo that was less than 100%? Pish - that's nuttin'. We've all done far, far worse than that!

Take a glance at this gentleman's embarrassing moment:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1WLAMvL ... L&index=18

He has played so many thousands of gigs he really should know where the edge of the stage is by now - that's what that white line is there for, Pete! How many of us were taken in by the attempt to turn it into an audience participation event?

Till our screwups have been broadcast all over YouTube I don't think we need to sweat them too much...

Cheers - C

thanks for the clip Ceri! lol Poor Pete, Probably not best to fall of the stage at his age! look what happened to Steven Tyler! Pretty cool how he let the guy in the crowd strum his guitar! Suppose it's all on how you handle the mistake, in a way he made that look really cool.

after a 20+ year break in playin', it was my turn to solo at a blues jam. I swear my fingers were gettin' caught between the strings. Thank god it was a nice crowd, that encourged me to come back. Worst was, asking a blind man (Ray Charles) for his autograph, I was so excited meeting him, just didn't think.

I once saw a Bill Cosby interview where he talked about doing a gig with Ray Charles and before they went on he walked in on Ray Charles shaving in the dark, and he asked Ray why he was shaving in the dark.

Of course as soon as he said it, he realized what he'd done, but Ray was cool with it.

I think he's told that story in several interviews, and tells it better than I do.

I'm sure Ray didn't mind.

Im sure the laughing was'nt for you, probly just some guys in the croud jokeing around. So here's my moment, We were playing this club and the ladys rest room was right next to the stage. Well this chick is walking up, to the restroom I think. The next thing I know she jumps on stage puts a lip lock on me, I loose balance and fall backwards over the Drums, All I hear are a lot of Laughs and hoots from the crowd. We take a break and set everything back in place. So take it in stride, It's only Rock N Roll.
