Well you were given spot on advice, as long as you save all the original parts and nothing was drilled or routed when or if you decide to sell you can put it back stock.

From what I have been able to learn it can hurt the value of your guitar if it some day becomes a vintage instrument. For some reason it is important at that stage to be completely stock and also hopefully to have never had any repairs, pot changes etc. As for your guitar today it will depend on the buyer, and whether or not he likes the upgraded pickups. Personally, I am always concerned about the mods made by other people. You never know if it was a skilled tech./luthier or some wannabe who did the mods. I would always rather buy a guitar that no one has worked on.

If you swap out everything, ie: pickguard, pots p/ups, etc, then you can always just put the stock pickguard assembly back in when you sell it and it's never been touched. No resoldering of anything. You can then keep your new assembly and put it in your next axe if you like it or sell it if you don't. I have an American Delux with VN's in it and that my plan. (Not that I plan on selling it at this point).
