As some of you know, I put an Ibanez JEM 555 on hold ( @ Guitar Center) a few days before christmas. By Mississippi law the guitar has to stay in the store for 21 days before it can actually be purchased.

Here's the rub. Last night I ran across a Peavey Wolfgang special (quilted top) for $500! No cosmetic flaws anywhere! Where as the Jem had a few dings in the paint (the arctic white had yellowed a decent bit too) needs a new pick guard and most of the hardware showed its 11 years of wear.

Now I could buy both and still have not paid $1,000, but am sure there would be backlash from the ol lady!

So the question is... what would ya'll do, or which guitar would you pick if you could get only one?

WOW.. tuff choice…. If it were me (and it aint) but if it were I would have to say I have always wanted a Jem ever since 1987 when the cool loch ness green 777’s came out, there very cool guitars to say the least….now I have never played a Wolfgang but there bad A@@ looking and I would be like a fish on the line with that too….For me since I already have an RG550, which was the precursor of the jem I probably would look at the Wolfgang pretty hard just to add some variety to the heard plus being in better shape…If I did not already have the RG I would go JEM all the way….seems to me GAS is hitting you before you even get to bring the Jem home.. again hard choice…let us know what you decide…

Bill

Yeah Bill. Its a tough choice for sure! In this particular case I wouldn't really say G.A.S. is the issue. It would be near criminal to pass on either of these guitars given their prices! I'm trying to figure out how to explain to the missus how 2 guitars showed up when we only discussed one.

I'm leaning with getting both. Explain how you can always get your money back because they are both great deals. It's been my experience that once I had a guitar home she relented and soon forgot about the price and everyday life went on!! :) Depends on the wife and financial situation!!

I have to agree Hop! I could pump about $220 into the JEM getting it back up to par and still turn a profit on it (should I want to). I think this may be a case where begging forgivness would be better than asking permission.

I dont have any pics of the JEM, but here is the Wolfgang:

That's a beauty! Tell her that for the price of one of Fenders cheapest new MIA you can get 2 classics that should return your investment!! Worked for me! Once!

I'm hoping she'll believe that the JEM reproduced by cellular division.

What a strange law. Do you know the reasoning behind it?

It sure is. I've never heard anything like that before unless it's in a pawn shop.

I'm buying it thru guitar center. I assume the law has something to do with stolen goods.

If the little lady has objections, just remember things that sparkle will calm her down. She can't hollar at you when she's staring at her fingers or looking in the mirror!

Excellent advice VT and actually I can go one better than that. The missus is going in on the 13th to have, ummm... lets say enhancement done, which is 5x's the amount of both guitars!

BTW. The Wolfgang is paid for and ships this afternoon. Now I just have to decide what to do about the JEM.
