Well orange is a great choice but there spendy…..only thing with them is you gotta watch the FX loops if you plan to run rack type effects or prosser type effects in it….they don’t marry well. Single stomp delay pedals like that work good….i was looking at Orange real hard until I tried out the mesa Eletra Dyne. I knew the dyne was for me the first time I heard it… the tone I have been searching for 20 something years… as far as record and play back….im not sure I know solid state amps will go that rout is Line 6 I think but I am not for sure on that…..your at the fun part , trying out gear looking for the one…..let us know what you come up with

Cheers
Bill

Thanks bro I was gassing for a les Paul but realized for right now I've got enough guitars(I know it's impossible) but all I have is a couple of practice amps and I think a new one would help my tone alot

Mesa, if you get the opportunity to try a Krank let us know if they're as good as they sound on they're sound clips. for the price of either of those, a couple of Fenders' Bandmasters or four could do the trick with a LP.

One of the guys I work with uses the krankenstein amp I have played it many times and for metal music with scooped mids or de-tuned guitar it sounds really good. Unfortunately that is where it ends IMO…..I find it very sterile sounding to my ear and my taste. Tone sounds very solid state flat kinda sounding except with great dynamics. Tone is all about personal preference after all, and the Krank just don’t suit me tone wise. The classic rocks sounds are not terrible but blues tones suck and the cleans are horrid IMO….this is defently a metal amp and if that’s all your going to use it for then it will deliver. If your looking or a metal amp there are better choices out there though (engl, mesa mark or recto series, marshall jcm800, Hughes & Keltner, Blackstar, even peavey) Like any thing your ear is the ultimate test but for this kid…..thumbs down for krank on tone….now don’t get me wrong, it sounds better than most solid state amps but for 1600 bucks…ahhhhhh…NO……plus who the heck in all reality needs 120 watts….

Just my 2 cents though….

Cheers
Bill

Thanks WT, I listened to the clip on the Michael Kelly site of the guy playing the Vex NV through a Krank Rev Jr and I wondered if those sounds were real. Maybe or maybe not, so, Mesa is the winner. What speaker cabs then?

I will take that into consideration but how do tube amps work?? And how often do tubes need to be replaced?? And where do you get tubes replaced?

some answers i found to help a few of your questions.

A valve amplifier or tube amplifier is a type of electronic amplifier that makes use of vacuum tubes to increase the power and/or amplitude of a signal. Low to medium power valve amplifiers for frequencies below the microwaves were largely replaced by solid state amplifiers during the 1960s and 1970s. Valve amplifiers are used for applications such as guitar amplifiers, satellite transponders such as DirecTV and GPS, audiophile stereo amplifiers, military applications (such as radar) and very high power radio and UHF television transmitters.

How long do tubes last? When should I replace my tubes?
It depends heavily on use. In a closet, the tubes will last forever, of course. For practice in a bedroom a couple of times a week at modest volumes, you'll probably get five to ten years out of them. If you practice twice a week for a couple of hours at full volume and play two gigs a weekend, count on one to two years out of a set of output tubes. Note that this assumes that you got good ones to begin with and that you had them properly biased when they were put in.
Tubes wear out by sheer hours of being turned on, by how hard they're worked, how hot they get from just the heat in the box, by the number of times they're turned on and off (thermal shock). Notice that being played at maximum warp into a dummy load (or power brake, or attenuator, etc.) counts as being played hard, and that because you can't hear all the sound, you may not think that you're working them hard.

Your ears tell you when to replace them. When they no longer sound quite as punch and sweet as they used to, start thinking about changing them.

Can I replace my own tubes?
Preamp tubes - sure! They're in sockets, any replacement tube of the same type will at least not damage the amp.

Even preamp tubes that are not exactly the same type can often be substituted as long as they have the same pin connections. For the commonest type, 12AX7, there are many types that have the same pinout and can be put in the same socket for different gains and tone. For instance, you might be able to use 12AU7, 12AT7, 12AY7, ECC82, ECC83, 7025, 5751, 6201, 6072A, 5814A, 12BH7 and others.

well that depends on what Mesa head your talkin about.....also what your flavor is for speakers...the express cabs are using the c90 speakers //lonstar cabs use the jenson // stiletto and recto cabs use the clestion V30’s //and road king uses the c90’s as well.. the C-90’s are gonna give you more bottom end and the / the v 30 more mid // as far as marshall cabs // clestion G12c (425) cab are mid heavy //GT12t- 75 have more low end …..I like the v30 speakers in the recto cab because my eletra dyne has mucho bottom end to the v30 balance it out some…..the G12C green backs sound super too…it all depends on what amp you decide on, type of music you play and what sounds good to you..

Here is a video of how different the same guitar, and head sound with different cabs

Im not sure if I answered your question Solid Body Love Songs, but it just depends…
