Shaved heads are just cool. I have been shaving my head to 3mm for years now because of premature thining (I am not bald yet, though I'll probably have bald spot before age of 30-35, I am 26 now), and I love it. It looks better than a hairpiece and by doing it my self I save a ton of money instead of going to a barber or a hair saloon. And it took care of my dandruff, problems.

But you should try the kind of dandruff shampoo that you can only get in pharmacies. Those H&S shampoos only hide the problem but don't fix them.

I have a fair head of hair at 56 years old... albeit pretty gray... but I cut it damn near off every summer. Short enough you couldn't pull it if you tried. First did it when I was riding out to Sturgis, SD one year and told my barber, "I'm living in a tent for the next half month... cut it all off!" Since then it's just normal for me in the summer now.

I live in a state that has a helmet law and I hate having a head of hair the same shape as the inside of my helmet when I get off one of the bikes. High and tight cures that. Makes me look like a cop though.

Tip... spray a good sunblock on your head when you go out in the sunshine! A burnt head really sucks! 8)

interesting seeing this thread, because like NonniG, I also have premature thinning. in fact, the top is pretty bare...and i'm only 24.

i know that fully shaving it off is probably the easiest solution, i've got a barber's razor, i could do it right now. but i used to have a thick head of hair, and i sport some hefty sideburns, so its hard to take the jump. maybe i'm just guilty of Peter Pan syndrome  , but i just cant get myself to do it. and i dont have a better answer why. i think its because it'd be such a drastic change, and i'd feel awkward just strolling to work or band practice, etc. one day and being like "oh hey, surprise!" ya know?

was it hard for you guys to get over it and take the leap to shave it off? is it hard making/adjusting to the change?

The first time I shaved my head I was just a kid (with a very thick and lucious blonde hair  ) and I was practising basketball. Michael Jordan of course was the top dog then in NBA and every kid who practised basketball in Iceland wanted to be like him :D . But of course this being in Iceland basketball practises looked more like skinhead parties  .

As my hair started to thin it just came more and more natural for me to crop my hair very short, hairpieces and comb-overs are not fooling anyone and this hairgut is something you can sport with some pride. I am even starting think about taking it all the way. :D

Hey VT,
I was in Sturgis, SD, in 2005. I saw some very cool bikes, also got the coolest tee ever 8) I covered a lot of the wild west on that trip, I'll never forget my time there. That's a cool bike, great pic 8)

I seem to go from one extreme to another with hair. Old style flat top to long hair. At this time it's down past my shoulders and I don't know maybe about 6 - 7 inches down my back. The Wife don't like the flat top , she says I am to big (height +size) with to many Tattoos and I look like some old man bad boy gang banger. Has't turned grey yet still a light reddish blonde not thick like it used to be.

I know a few guys around here that have done the same thing and shaved it all off. You have to be careful, with the sun exposure we have, and use sunscreen or wear a hat. One friend already had a scare with melanoma on his dome.

HAHAHAHA yeah i did it once while in Hawaii, a lot of guys were sporting the 'ol cueball, so i thought what the heck.....I then went to Northshore/Sharkscove area and proceeded to do some snorkeling.....I was only in the water for about an hour checking out all the aewsome things to see.....to my dismay, however, upon returning to the beach i found that i had a brand new red yamakka(sp?) on my head! :shock:my wife thought it was funny............and so did the locals
As posted before.....WEAR SUNSCREEN!!!! I have since grown some of my hair back....but now its a a bit sparse....and clinging on for dear life.
I get letters from Bosley Hair Club too  Im pathetic....
