The last time I priced "true" Kona Hawaiian coffe it was close to $40 a lb.I also love Jamacain Blue Mountain and Kenya AA but they are climbing in price.I try to buy "fair trade" because the growers get the fair market value for their product,it costs more but at least you know the workers aren't exploited.

It depends on the blend. My wife works for Starbucks, so once a week we get a free bag which lasts us a week. (I think Starbucks is like a drug dealer, get you hooked and you'll eventually pay those redicules prices.) If it is a dark (bold) blend, I use a little suger and little non-dairy creamer. If it is a milder blend, black.

Black and full of sediment.

Fresh Ground Colombian with a smattering of French Roast (Jose Whole Bean from Costco) in a French Press.

Coffee is a highly overrated beverage that have been forced on modern civilisation by a combination of political and economic situations that ran for centuries. Some teas are the best of both worlds when combined with bergamot, mint or other flavors, while others are fine just as they are. With coffee you have to try to eradicate the bitterness by drowning it with sugar, milk, chocolate...what else does it need to make barely drinkable? Everyday, my wife grinds her batch of fresh coffee, man the smell is so awfull I have to cloak myself with the smell of orange juice to be able to have breakfast with her. My rollmops and blue cheese are almost tasteless because of the coffee smell.
Another thing is the involvement of the government of coutries from all over the world to brainwash people by introducing the so called "coffee break". As if the hard work was not enough, we have to stop our favorites daily activities to intoxicate ourselves by ingurgitating cups of this dark beverage. :? Customers at the garage look at me as if I were from another planet when they realize that I don't do coffee and they'll have to drink two cups of it. Hey, just ask me before buying it, "Can I offer you coffee or do you want coffee? Instead of taking for granted that the whole world is addicted to the dark side.
Coffee have found a way to spread it's evilness everywhere by the use of automatic machines, street corner coffee shops and gift samples. Coffee might have been the dawn of the fast food spree that took over the restaurating industry and brought the good taste down the drain. :?
Restaurant owners have found a way to bring more customers in by forcing out those who just lost the taste and the smell of what they just ate minutes earlier and have no more reason to sit in, again by flushing it with a strong and persistent odour that leaves no room for food taste and then no reason to stay in.
I hope nobody took offense because this rant was just a reaction to the beverage itself and in no way targeted those who drink it. :) I drink water, tea, juices, sodas and occasionally milk. I always despised the smell and the taste of coffee from as young as I can remember. I guess I'm just a tea guy. :) Tea with no milk and no sugar of course.

Hi Claude, I do agree with most of what you say ,except about resturant owners , maybe its is true somewhere but most of us are just giving our customers what they want. And Tea has the same geo political history Coffee does. Most Tea producing countries also criticize the addition of lemon or cream as well sweeteners, but encourage herb and flower favors to the blend. Iced Tea is really considered a waste of tea.
Sorry about not liking the smell of coffee in the mourning, my suggestion get up 5 minutes early and get the bacon going. :) I never liked coffee until I tasted Kona in Hawaii ,then I was hooked. Its all about taste, kinda like music. :) Take care my friend and sorry if I blather.

Hi gratz, as I said, I didn't mean to offense anyone but I had to use this thread to take a sweet revenge over one of the rare things that I really don't like. Coffee. Have a great weekend. :)
