I can't imagine why Fender would keep Canadians from entering contests. Makes no sense.

The fact of the matter is that 99% of folks running online giveaways are doing so not-necessarily-legally. So ... why don't we follow suit and simply open it up as a free for all? Well -- the problem is that there's always that element out there just chomping at the bit to see the big "F" take a misstep -- and that's why we can only ever pursue stuff like this if (and only if) all of the legal T's are crossed and I's dotted. Currently they're not, and I can't speak authoritatively to when they will be -- though the issue is certainly well known.

I'm pretty sure no one was suggesting that Fender just hold contests willy nilly no matter the legalities. It did seem strange that Fender wasn't holding contests in Canada. Now it makes sense.

As our old friend Shakespere said: "First kill all the lawyers..."

It's a shame that Fender is kept from holding contests in such a large and friendly market such as Canada without jumping through hoops and giving lawyers their tithe. There's always a hand out or a back to scratch isn't there?

I've got a stepson living in Canada and I'm always amazed at the stumbling blocks to trade with the states. He's always having me buy stuff here and send it up to him! So much for NAFTA huh?

Oh yeah, totally understood -- I was just pointing out that even though that country happens to border us the same issue unfortunately applies.

NOT A U.S. RESIDENT?
To the loyal FENDER® fans around the world: as you've no doubt noticed, Fender USA is currently offering this online promotion only to U.S. residents. To avoid any misunderstanding, please allow us to explain the reason for this limitation.

We should begin by stating the obvious. FENDER understands and appreciates that it has many loyal fans located outside of the United States. We also know that these fans want to participate in promotions just as much as the FENDER fans who live within the United States.

With that said, we would like to encourage guitarists outside of the United States to make use of the "International" link at Fender.com, and use it to look for contests and promotions that are being offered by our worldwide Fender locations and international distributors.

So, I go to the International site and I see 31 countries listed, but no Canada. So, there is no way a Canadian can enter any contests. I know we only have 40 million people but I would think there would be enough Fender owners and purchasers in Canada to warrant a contest or two each year?

As far as that goes there is no misunderstanding ,well at least not on my behalf.
But what really does blow is that I live in a country so small that I'm willing to bet that Fender will never ever do any sweepstakes what so ever. :(

Currently, that's unfortunately correct ... Fender has no full-fledged "office" in Canada and hence there is no formally-sanctioned website activity emanating from there either. Will it always be this way? No way! It's a well known issue and believe me, my voice is hoarse from explaining this so many times -- I certainly welcome our eventual entry into Canadian web giveaway activity as much as you do. But, that's the reality that we're faced with at the moment.
