I had an opportunity, because of the new year, to quit drinking. No moderation, no off days. Just quitting. This has been going on since I was a
kid. Mostly wine. With dinner, but before, and after. Tonight is my first night without and, as I expected......nothing happened. I am not a dependent person. But it has been a pleasurable habit, and it is easy to imagine how great a few would be with dinner. And before, and after.

I'm writing "I dont drink" on a tablet in the morning, and visualizing my
abs o' steel I will have, to fortify my will. Whatever happens, I'm taking this year off.

I wonder what you forum-ites have resolved to leave behind, turn your back on, now that you have a fresh start. A habit, a person, a belief, a doubt.

Tell us what and why.

Happy New Year.

Taurus, must we leave things behind? habits persons beliefs doubts, I have bad habits but I so hoped they weren't so bad that I would have to leave them, I meet each day with hope I spend time with some one I love, I believe in my parents and through them you know who, I don't doubt (at least when that type of vibe starts I remind myself that is counter productive), if I should, I don't know what to do. Do you, Taurus?

Hi Taurus: I was somewhere similar 20+ years ago. It was getting to a silly level, starting on the gin or vodka around midday, so I decided to knock it on the head while I still could. Now (contrary to the impression perhaps given) I am a very light drinker. I can still enjoy a beer or two (no more) because I got it under control in time.

I know a couple of genuine out-and-out alcoholics. Not pretty.

Good luck with your resolution.

Cheers - erm, make that; so long - C

Solid Body- No, I dont know exactly what to do. But I know my accomplishments up to now have been mediocre. And I have to take time out from being comfortable, to change my habit of toil, then reward, toil, reward...... Abandon your parents? Who said anything about that?
Unless they're obama lovers. I know that would bug you. Ha Ha.

Ceri- I will certainly return to drinking wine someday. If I want to lead a romantic life, I have to. But I want to meditate and focus and apply myself while I have the will. I used to feel God swelling in my chest when I had wine, but it became a habit, and I guess mystical revelation is not an everyday thing.

ABS- Thanks, man.

Yes you do, Taurus. Your accomplishments prove that you do. Mediocre is a word I haven't ever thought of at the same time as thinking of you. If you have to take time out from being comfortable to change, I have heard some thing about that, it works. I haven't tried myself so I'll say please try to not be uncomfortable. I looked at the post as a kind of check list and I didn't have any thing in those categories that I could part with. Come to think of it though maybe I wouldn't miss some government types, nothing personal towards those, ahem, politicians, just a little thought.

I'm not leaving anything behind, but I'm hoping that this will be a much better year than last, especially with my son living with me...it hasn't always been easy (what do you expect from a teenager...well, soon he'll be twenty), but then again, I'm not always the easiest person to get along with.

Taurus,

I wish you all the luck in the world.

I come from a family of alcoholics, so I do not drink alcohol very often; maybe 1-2 times per year. I have seen family members go down, get back on their feet, and slip again. It is just something I do not want to do.

I have nothting to stop or resolve this year, except aquire a great tube amp before the end of the year.

I'm going to get back to my treadmill routine,as winters here are not conducive to walking, and I'm going to spend more time at the guitar improving my technique and also trying to get down as many of George Harrison's lead breaks as possible. One thing I regret I can't leave behind is my bills.[/url]
