Yes, I am a beginner. I need some simple explanation help, please. How does the built-in tuner on the G-Dec Jr. work? Says it is an "E" Tuner. Does that mean it only can direct efforts to tune the Big E, or the fretboard E on each string, or does it pickup any of the open strings "EADGBE"? Help?

Welcome to the forum! That function will only give you the "E" tone, (the same as your higher pitched E String.) The "tuner", in this case, is your ear.

Simple, but handy if you have no other instrument to tune to.

Sorry, forgot to add that, then you must tune the other five strings to the "intune" E string. This tuning method, (which you can look up here, or just Google) also requires a good ear. I personally think it's a good training excercise to sharpen your ears for tone, (and therefore a bad tone). All part of the learning process!!
