Do you mean no pick, or the way EVH holds it, or both?

I've tried it Eddie's way--but it doesn't work for me.
I've been playing without a pick a lot more lately--although I started without one and took classical guitar lessons for a couple of years when I started playing guitar--

I mean no pick. Whenever I do it it sounds horrible....

My music techer (un experienced guitar player) plays with his thumb and his (believe it or not) his pinky. I have no clue how he does it, it looks tremendosley funny by the way.

Well keep working at it-or just use a pick.

Some stuff I find easier with a pick, some I find easier without--sometimes I use hybrid picking-which is using a pick but also your fingers that aren't holding the pick.
