The am standard p bass is only 1199$ on the site! My local stores sell them for 1400$ so this looks like a great deal!

Its a great deal, but MF has limitations on what they can sell in Canada due to various international distribution deals with some manufacturers, so make sure you can get this item sent to you from them before you get too excited... 8)

Is it really a good deal? or did Fender realize they did the price increase at a very bad economic time and the big wigs thought "hey, lets drop the prices so everyone thinks they're getting a break!"

MF has Am Standard Strats and Teles back down to $999 (Alder models) and $1149 (Ash models). Woohoo!

Its great to see these prices coming down. Hopefully this isn't a really temporary thing to move out older stock. At these prices I might look into a Tele.

You may be right -- sort of like car makers' cash back deals that seem to go on forever. I once asked a marketing pro friend "why have cash back deals that seem nearly permanent instead of just saying you're reducing the price of the car?"

His response: good marketing. People view a price drop as giving in to consumers while a "sale" is a deal. That in turn leads to people acting in the short run because a sale will presumably end. The final point is that no one thinks much when a "sale" price goes back up. But increasing a permanent price (especially if it hasn't been at the lower price for all that long) is perceived as a negative.

Nothing I've read (email I got over the weekend or their site) is saying anything about a deadline. Still (exactly as my marketing friend predicts I should react), I'm considering getting that P-bass sooner than later!

To me not a big deal, as that price on the Jazz Bass is about the same as I paid at MF last March. Maybe a bit more.
