My Dad and I watched the Les Paul documentary that came out a couple of years ago and it got us both interested in listening to some more of his music. But neither of us really know where to start. Which Les Paul CD would be good for a couple of newbies?

it depends what you want. i like some of the mary ford duos, but prefer to listen to the instrumentals.

you may want to get the "chester and lester" cd's he made with chet atkins. they are 2 of my favorites. they may not be easy to get at your local store, but you can try amazon.com or ebay.

a little Les Paul story - my brother worked for Panasonic for many years in the industrial camera division. He would go into studios in NYC and work on cameras, lighting, etc. Well...one day Les Paul happens to be where my brother is and they had a little chat. Les invited my brother to his house in Mahwah, NJ and as he lives nearby, jumped at the chance. Unfortunately I wasn't invited. :( Les showed my brother his work studio and loved to talk about his projects. He was a very gracious man. My brother asked me afterwards if I would like to visit him and naturally I said SURE ! My brother never got around to asking Les to visit him - he kept saying " Lets visit Les " for years, but it wasn't to be anymore.

Try CDnow.com, I think it is the music part of Amazon without the extra navigation. The "Les Paul and Mary Ford All Time Greatest Hits" would be a good place to start and the disc with the Decca Records masters looks interesting too.
Enjoy,
