Different guitars, different sound, different feel.

I like them both depending on the application, though my preference in general is for Strats.

Well, I played my tele yesterday and my strat today and I gotta say, I had more fun on my tele.
I've always been more of a Telecaster man though, it goes way back to the sixties, watching the Yardbirds, I kinda got turned on watching Clapton and Beck. 8)

The tele origionally was made to be cheap as at the time, the world was in a major recession and materials were hard to come by, for example that is why the headstock is quite small in comparison to the strat. However 60 years later and the tele is still selling in ridiculous quantities, so it seems fender may have just got it right in the first place with the first ever solid body guitar.
As for the strat being iconic, i guess Arkman thinks this because of hendrix playing one, but if it wasn't for another massive rock icon (who is famous for playing teles) then mr hendrix would not of had the money for a strat as it was bought by keith richards then mrs with keiths money. The Stones being one of the most iconiic bands ever and mr richards being one of the most iconic classic rock 'n' roll guitar players.
I think that will do for now, otherwise this mite turn out to be like an essay.

Wasnt the headstock made smaller so it was less likely to break off?

I love both guitars and maybe lean more on the Tele side for playability especialy after getting a new Deluxe with the belly contour. Anyway I own 4 of each so that calls it a draw and lets put this thread to rest.

+1 on leaning more to a tele. since 1974 I've always wanted a strat, over the years startin' with a couple of squires, then to mex. strats and finally an american standard strat which I still love. then about 3 years ago my 06 american butterscotch ash deluxe with black pickguard caught my eye, and has been my main axe since. I feel like I graduated to another level, with that guitar. I even picked up a 1995 mex. blonde tele special with a humbucker at the neck to play some slide guitar. :D

For some, those are fightin' words. : p

This question is so horribly boring and stupid, imho. Just play them both and figure it out yourself.
