Unless Fender was going to use Epiphone to sell yet another line of their own guitars (Strat, Tele, etc.) the company would be useless to them as it's a sure bet the sale of Epihone would not include the rights to sell their current model lineup. Gibson allow Fender to sell the Epiphone Les Paul? After the shenanigans with PRS over a guitar that only kinda looked like one? I don't think so. This would noty be a good move for FMIC unless they felt they were solvent enough to completely retool the entire division. I don't see this as very likely what with American, Mexican, Korean and Japanese lines already in production and then the Squire line as to boot. What in the world would they need with another brand name?

This is nothing more than rumor. It has to be. It doesn't make any sense.

I think that someone at that guitar store was just spouting off verbal flatulence, for Fender to buy Epiphone an unimaginable pile of legal hurdles would have to be cleared, among them design copyrights etc. it just doesn't seem plausible or possible.

Did the bloke at the shop have a pronounces slur to his voice. Maybe a pack of rizla or a glass pipe hanging out of his top pocket.

Can you imagine the financial implications of selling the epiphone name? As BMW said that name doesnt include the rights to sell the current epiphone models. Henry would suffer less to sell the Gibson name. Epiphone must make ten times the profit Gibson do. They sell like hot cakes, its why Gibson promote themselves as the premier instrument manufacturer and price accordingly. They can afford to do that when their budget line provide the bread and butter. Remember life before epiphones re-emergance. Gibson only bought em back cos everyone was screaming for a couple of epi models, the sheraton and the casino.

Who knows how many people stop in hear daily from all over the globe and look how easy a rumor can spread all over the place. I found the Peavey buying Gibson rumor of a few months ago more believable. It just dont make any sense when you analyze it.

I don't know how you merged the 2, but I wouldn't mind having one if it looked like that, the fender headstock shape almost looks like it belongs on that Les Paul body, and the color is great.

When will you guys learn, if its on the internet, then its most definitely true. Especially if the source for those rumors is a forum where within that discussion of that specific topic several people see it as a joke...We all know how legitimate postings on forums can be...after all, didn't a bunch of Harmony Central people end up with a bunch of free Epi Zakk Wylde LPs a few years back due to a "legitimate" promotion with Epiohone Guitars and 357 Customs (http://www.antimusic.com/news/06/june/23-04.shtml)? LMAO...

I've always hated the body shape of the les paul, but that one actually looks nice.
