I'm not sure what your question is crustysam 8) Are you asking why do people want 60's Fenders when the new ones are fine? That's a good question indeed, and there are a lot of answers. Some of the lust for vintage Fenders is just nostalgia and hype - everything was better in the 60's, man, in the mind of the baby boomer generation who believe they changed the world permanently for the better etc... There's a lot of ego invested in the myth of that period and some of that myth attaches to the guitars of the time.

But there are some real, measurable differences between vintage Fenders and modern ones that many players find desirable too. Fender made a lot less guitars then and may have had better wood stock to use for standard factory guitars, may have put a little more time and care into each guitar. The pickups were wound differently, and there was a lot of variation between electronic components so that two strats made on the same day could sound quite differently. There were less environmental controls so they used different lacquers than today, the manufacturing process was slower and less mechanized... and so on. Some of those differences contribute to the sound and feel of those guitars in a way that people like. A lot of players also like the feel of an old guitar. It's worn in, has soft edges and a little history worn into the finish, it has a story.

Whatever, your dad's guitars a quite valuable now so don't get ripped off if you sell them. If it was me I'd keep 'em and play them every day and be grateful. And dude, it would be easier to read your message if you wrote it in sentences, with some punctuation... should be able to find these little dots on the keyboard........... :)

Let me add a great big agreement to this--just in case you need more feedback/support/numbers on that.
