For $2000, there are lots of LPs available on the various boards...HC, TGP, MLP...I bought my 2007 LP Standard faded with Burstbucker Pros for $1300. I bought some Virtuoso Cleaner and Polish and polished it up...it's the one on the left

I've seen a couple of LPs with maple necks at Sam Ash, and they just don't look right, IMHO.

Any Zakk Wylde signature product will make you talk like you have lockjaw and a Southern accent, even though you may have be from New Jersey...I mean seriously, what the hell happened to Zakks voice since starting BLS? New Jersey is above the Mason-Dixon line last time I checked...lol...

I think the OP is thinking Maple neck and Fret board .

That always puzzled me too!

That's a beautiful guitar you've got there and it was a nice deal.

CV you are correct, of course, that I meant a Maple Fretboard as well. Thanks for posting your guitar, it is VERY nice.

Are you sure that is not a baritone like Buckethead's? It would use heavy stings and be tuned down a full step.

It looks like a nice project but sounds like too much money for a build. For that kind of money you can start it would be safer to get it already built. (A finish like that could get damaged).

I'm saying this from experience because I built my first finished guitar and while I was putting it together I scratched the body a couple of times.

A my price who cares but that is too pretty to get scratched.

I think it is just a regular Les Paul, but they use a Strat sized neck pocket and strat scale length. I'm not sure how it would play with the slightly longer scale, and I usually like to use standard tuning. I'm not too concerned with scratching it, as a project, it really is just a matter of bolting the thing together, and bolting on the parts. I'm not afraid to drill the headstock for the screws to the tuners, but I am pretty concerned about drilling the holes for the pickup rings. I imagine tape would need to be used to avoid damaging the finish.

I love real Gibby Les Paul Customs, but they are still out of my price range at 3800, and they don't make Customs with Maple necks anymore... (I really dig the birdseye anyway) This project would be about the max I could afford spend on a guitar and I have to sell a few of my current things to fund it. Nothing that I would miss though  I'm not too worried about it holding value anyway, because I don't think I could let it go if I do build it.

Pilot drill everything. Remember all screws are tapered and have shanks which means you have to drill two sizes (one for screw and one for shank). Start with the smallest bit you have and work up for all holes. Drill a little then pull the bit out to let the wood clear the hole. If you can't get the screw in easily with a screw driver then it's the wrong size. Force it and it breaks unless the screw is stainless. If it's too easy then the hole was too big.

Good luck and check out Stewmac for "Trade Secrets".

CV, I mentioned the maple fretboard below the photo..I don't like it on an LP...it just doesn't fit the LP look in my opinion...I've seen some maple fretboard LPs and they look terrible.

Yes, I am sure that it is not everyone's taste, but it sure is different. I love birds-eye maple. I think this neck is even nicer than the one I posted earlier.

Since the neck has black binding, I would get black binding on the body as well.

With a solid maple neck and a 25.5 scale rather than a 24.75 I would expect a brighter tone and tighter string feel.

I get the whole thing of making the project guitar that you want but no one makes. I really do ... But if it were me, my local GC has a couple of $1800
Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pros. I admit it does not have the fancy wood, but it does come with a HSC. Annnnd because it says "Gibson" on the headstock,
it will increase far more in value over the years than a project guitar will.

Features: BurstBucker 3 and '57 Classic pickups with coil-splitting, '60s neck profile, Grover locking tuners, antique binding, period-correct pickguard,
vintage Gibson top hat knobs, and the revolutionary Plek set up

Hey it is a totally beautiful match and looks like a winner to me. The one thing I would want you to think over is that you are never going to recoup anywhere near the amount of money you are putting into it if you ever decide to sell it.

If you are totally okay with that then go full steam ahead. But I would take a good look at all the makes out there that are brand name that might offer what you are looking for before shelling out 2K on your own build. Usually guys that do there own ax and there are some beauties here, were done to look custom shop at a fraction of the cost. You are totally going high end and if you are comfortable to make it your #1 ax that is going to be with you for a decade or two go ahead. But there is the other side and I just want you to know no one will care what it cost you to build or that it is a killer guitar if you want to sell it.

I have a custom built guitar, that I had put together. I have an pickup ride, so got those for free. The luither charged me half price, and I still kept it under 1K.

Personally, I love the top/finish. Like an Ace Frehely Quilt top! The only thing about this project that I can see is: It's built for a bolt-on neck. It would be justify spending 2K on it. You can order a husk off the right person on ebay, that has the open-book headstock and everything. You'll spend a lot less money that way.

Just get a set of Super Distortions, neck and bridge. And I think Epiphone makes a bolt-on neck, that would be similar. But, that's all I would do.

Just don't go overboard!!!!!

Also, check MOJO Music Supply, on ebay. You can get your electronics on there, prewired, with caps!!

Just be sure to order Long Shaft Pots, for the arch-top!!

Kong,
Hope parting with the floodcaster is not part of the plan, that project was impressive, and having the two side by side would be killer.

Keep us posted,
