I'm gassing for a Les Paul. I have an Epi Custom, but I have been thinking of this body and neck for a build project. I thought it would be fun to share and I'd love to hear opinions! I don't recall ever seeing a Les with a maple neck, not that I have been searching though. This would look pretty "one of a kind" I think. I would probably go with all black hardware (to match the inlay), with black pickups & cream rings (to match the binding). One thing I am leery of is that this particular body and neck are the same scale as a Strat, do you think that would have much affect on the overall tone of the thing?

Very nice man. The only LP I have seen with a maple is one of Zack Wylde's signature's.

I take it you are bolting the neck on or are you going to set it?

Let us know how she turns out.

Body and Neck are bolt-on, so that was the direction I was going. I have a very cheap bolt-on Les Paul and it has sustain for days, so I'm not really worried about that. It will look cool with a black neck plate and screws. Also I like the idea of the improved upper fret access with the bolt-on. This build would come in

Love the colour on the epi, for me if you could get that on the inlays and something on the headstock it would be stunning looking axe, Iv'e no idea how difficult that would be to do though, the tone question I couldn't answer

Looks like that would be a fabulous combination. I love the paint job on that body. How much money are you looking at putting into this project?

It ain't cheap!! That body is about $950 and the neck will end up being about $650.

Then I would have to add pickups, pots, wiring, tuners, neck plate, bridge and tailpiece.

Probably looking just north of 2 grand when it is all said and done!!

I figured you'd be looking at at least some financial figure like that after seeing what similar bodies are going for at Warmoth. Should be worth it in the end however to have such a unique and custom looking guitar.

Are you sure that is not a baritone like Buckethead's? It would use heavy stings and be tuned down a full step.

It looks like a nice project but sounds like too much money for a build. For that kind of money you can start it would be safer to get it already built. (A finish like that could get damaged).

I'm saying this from experience because I built my first finished guitar and while I was putting it together I scratched the body a couple of times.

A my price who cares but that is too pretty to get scratched.

I think it is just a regular Les Paul, but they use a Strat sized neck pocket and strat scale length. I'm not sure how it would play with the slightly longer scale, and I usually like to use standard tuning. I'm not too concerned with scratching it, as a project, it really is just a matter of bolting the thing together, and bolting on the parts. I'm not afraid to drill the headstock for the screws to the tuners, but I am pretty concerned about drilling the holes for the pickup rings. I imagine tape would need to be used to avoid damaging the finish.

I love real Gibby Les Paul Customs, but they are still out of my price range at 3800, and they don't make Customs with Maple necks anymore... (I really dig the birdseye anyway) This project would be about the max I could afford spend on a guitar and I have to sell a few of my current things to fund it. Nothing that I would miss though  I'm not too worried about it holding value anyway, because I don't think I could let it go if I do build it.

Very cool, the Zack Wylde one I saw had the fret board in maple. It was one of those horrible bullseye guitars of his in the camouflage background version.
