Hes good but he spends too much time wearing his guitar and not enough time playing it IMO.

I saw them in New Orleans back in April and have to say this statement couldnt be more true! Still have tons of respect for the guy. He's not the most proficient player out there but the man can sure put on a helluva show!

Green Day is all power chords and that's fine, the greatest rock band of all time-The Ramones-were too. But Green Day are incredibly boring. There are breakfast cereal punk rock, sweet but no substance.

I can get why people like them and they have some good tunes but same as Nirvana I think I just grew away from what they had to say and also their playing.

I do get why people like them though, but both those bands just aren't for me.

I did see Green Day at Reading Festival back in 01 and it WAS a great show.

Personally I liked Green Day up until the acoustic Time of Your Life, I cannot remember the name of it, song came out, then I didn't like them too much, but didn't find them annoying...however, that 21 Guns Song makes me want to point 21 guns right at them...Another thing annoying about that song is I can't stand how supposedly big bands write songs where its the same word at the end of each line...that song has one line that ends with "for" and the very next line ends with "for" and to me thats just a lack of thought or laziness...kind of like songs that fade out...every now and then fade outs are okay, but they usually make me think,"They couldn't spend a little more time coming up with an actual ending?"

Regardless of anyone else's opinion, I still love Green Day. Billie Joe Armstrong writes some excellent lyrics and as simplistic as their playing may be, 9 times out of 10, you know it's them when you hear them. They've developed their own sound and that should count for something.
People were shitting all over "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" because "they sold out and went acoustic" and whatnot, which is just plain stupid.
American Idiot was a great album, too. I liked it even more when people ripped on it.

American Idiot and Know Your Enemy are just so banal. You can't rip on them because there just isn't any substance there. It's faux anti-corporate anti-government rhetoric played so perfectly by the numbers to appeal to MTV and mall kids who want to pretend to rebel or at least have the style of rebellion but don't want the substance or to be challenged. Green Day are another wal-mar major label band who play to the masses.

I like their music. Some of their lyrics are crap. I do not turn the radio down when they come on. There are worse bands out there.

I have made a regional observation (and I certainly hope that it's not a universal thing). The people around here that dump on Green Day all seem to have one thing in common: a shared love for (and belief that the salvation of rock lies in) Linkin Park and Nickelback.

Oh god no. I have a modicum of respect for Linkin Park in that they make their music unapologetically and it can brutally honest if not whiny. Nickelback is absolutely terrible. Just so bland, bad, very very bad music. It is a pollutant.
