BBE Sonic Maximizer - one you play through one, you'll never want to play without one again. :wink:

It cleans up the signal from your amp to your speakers and smoothes out the highs, mids and lows.

You really have to hear it to believe it. Under $200 :

I go along with thne wah pedal suggestion,Cry Baby,Vox,Teese RMC(you can sometimes get them for around $200),Fulltone.

I was going to say Wah but Miami Mike's got it. I use one on both guitar and bass and except at very low volume, there's a considerable improvement to your sound and you can tailor it to whatever room you're in. So I'm +1 on the BBE.

My second choice, if that doesn't appeal, would be the Wah because of the many uses from vintage tunes to now. Or for a somewhat more limited range of applications, an envelope filter (aka "auto wah") might be worth considering.
