Is it a Line 6 Toneport? If so, yes. You will need Gearbox (old) or POD Farm (new) to use it. You will have to set your preferences to the toneport as your default audio input.

I use GuitarPort to record all my demos! However, you're gonna need a recording software to record to. On my laptop I use an old program that I actually learned computer-based recording on called Cool Edit Pro, which I absolutely love. On my Mac I use a newer software called Digital Performer.

I think the GuitarPort is an excellent tool! I'm sure there are free recording programs out there that'll get you started. You can always hit me up here and I can walk you through the recording process!

Good luck!

I think you're talking about Audacity --- and if you are, I'm pretty sure you can use that as well.

The way it works is pretty simple: Assuming both Audacity and GearBox are installed on your computer --- using a USB cable:

--- plug GuitarPort into your computer (into a 2.0 USB port)
--- plug your guitar cable into GuitarPort 1/4" input
--- fire up GearBox (Line 6 modeling software)
--- fire up Audacity (if you decide to go that route)
--- then figure out how to use GuitarPort as an *output device* in Audacity's Properties/Options/Tools or Settings

Once you learn how to do this, you're off to a world where the Rivers of Creativity will wake you at 4 in the morning just to take a dip!

If you have any questions, email me!

Guitarport if very proprietary and will probably give you a hard time recording only because they have a recording software called Riff Tracker which they say can be used with other recording softwares. Best bet is to go to their web site (line6) and find out as much as you can.

You can probably get a deal online for Riff Tracker. For my lazy ways I just purchased it all upfront for $150 which isn't bad because Guitar Port by itself is usually $100. Funny thing was the CD was damaged and Guitar Center told me to download it online because their web sight would read the serial number from my Guitar Port. They also gave me another CD just in case but I've upgraded since then to their new patches which charge extra for everything but whatever at least it works. Now I'm noticing they don't have free user patches anymore for artist's tone.
