...I'm pretty sure it'd sound like my latest project...

The Armenian Space Station

I recorded guitar for these two producer friends of mine (it all started with just recording *Video Gaming Music*) and they're talking about taking this stuff on the road.

Let me know what you guys think! I'm curious of what the outside world thinks of this stuff.

Cheers

Excellent playing and a very odd combination of metal guitar with piano. I would really like to hear a piece that has lyrics and vocals.

It kinda sorta reminds me of System of A Down, especially the Armenian thing because SOAD is from Armenia. And that is definitely not a bad thing since SOAD is one of my all time favorite bands ^^

I will say you might want to change your name unless you comfortable with your band's acronym being Armenian Space Station

Nice and interesting composition. Piano sounds interesting in the mix. I am of a Serbian background and we share similar folky passages typicaly done with the accordion as you were doing in on Piano.

Thanks straycat113, I appreciate it. Actually, I would like to hear how a vocalist would approach this music too. I myself, being a singer/songwriter as well, have MY harmonic ideas floating around in my head, but I don't hear my voice singing to this style of music, so I'm curious as to hear what it would sound like as well. I know we're going to start a Vocalist campaign soon to have singers submit their ideas via online --- somewhat of a guerrilla/viral marketing approach. That in and of itself is going to be a blast for me. I can't wait to experience this rush of creativity from people I've never even met!

Hahaha! Capo, when I asked what band name they had in mind, I was told it was Armenian Space Station --- me, coming from a 9 to 5 corporation that learned me how to see acronyms in all things, immediately responded with:

"Greg, do you realize you're asking me to be the lead guitarist for a band called A double ess!, right?" In his boyish character he paused, realized the truth in my question... then bursted out in tremendous laughter!

Producers --- Greg (piano) and Barrett (drums) are both Armenian American who originally asked me to track some guitars for a "video game resume" --- these guys already compose and produce on their own respectfully, but after they heard the first track --- which apparently, I turned into a "song that could be played live", they were curious about how more of these tunes would sound, so they wrote a few more, asked me to come track some more guitars so one immediately turned into 5 tracks. Now, these knuckleheads failed to realize that I'm not Armenian; I happen to be Mexican --- so, in my mind, there goes the band name. However, I think I could get used to being in a band called A ess ess!. (_!_) :D

I was raised on Harmonic Minor riffs like Blackmore's Gates of Babylon and Uli Roth's Sailes of Charon; those songs actually turned me on to that whole Middle Eastern mode of music which I absolutely adore -- which is probably why these guys commissioned me in the first place. I know I'm not the best guitar player, and I don't ever tend to be... but I think they hired me because I can relate to them harmonically... musically and spiritually speaking of course. Cool cats these guys.

I actually listen to "World Folk" (as iTunes calls it). Traditional instruments indigenous to whatever culture playing to the tune of whatever standards... I sure do love me some world folk music! As I've mentioned before, both the producers, Greg and Barrett come from an Armenian background and they both have traditional Armenian standard music pouring through their veins. I on the other hand, have been listening to world folk only for about 13 years or so. These guys reek of it and I dig that!

The music I'm writing isn't really "metal" and I may have grown out of the "metal" stage of my life as well; but these tracks kinda grew on me since I first tracked 'em. The odd time signatures --- the overall heaviness --- the drums! There's even a Chick Corea solo section in one of the tunes!!! I don't know, I already have a biased opinion on these tracks and I'd like for other folks to give me theirs.

A double ess!

I really like this. The quick impression it gives me is of an album that dropped in from a parallel universe where it was mainly jazz and classical forms that evolved into rock rather than blues and gospel (and I think the jazz feel is what sets it apart for me from a lot of other classically influenced prog rock).

Edit: I would buy this as an album in a heartbeat. This is good stuff. The more I'm listening to it, the more I'm seriously digging it.

If they had a baby the Metallica would be jailed for a rather dusty necrophilic action as well as it being a miracle!

Sounds good bro. Keep her lit!

philth I like the idea of submitting it on line as you are going to get so many different approaches to these tracks and probably will be shocked to see some cool ideas that you never would of thought of. A lot of bands are taking an approach like this for all kinds of reasons and that is how Journey even found there new singer.

Man, I agree! At our "first official band meeting" when we first discussed the idea of a possible singer for this project, the thought started with getting the 'fans' involved somehow --- then it turned into *well since fans love to be part of something they admire, let's just get the fans to submit vocal ideas so they will actually be part of the band* --- albeit virtual, but nonetheless.

Then we can submit everybody's ideas online --- go through a fan voting system, and when we get to their cities, they can be part of the band and play live on stage with us!

Well, I dig it --- and I love the idea of getting the "fans" involved somehow --- hell, I'd have loved something like this when I was a kid!
