I have Emailed a lot of companies about this same topic, asking why Canadians as the close neighbour of the US are exempt from contests and all have told me their hands are tied with regard to international participation. The gaming laws in the US and most countries are usually very different and the import/export rules of different countries are so variable it would be impossible to comply to any. However some did say that try to promote contests run out of other countries through the auspices of their international agents.

Absolutely and also the commercial rules in general. I work for a company that pays movie and TV talent and we'd be happy to pay anyone anywhere. There are no US laws that prohibit that, but many of the countries of the world do either effectively or outright. Foreign trade is a very complex and expensive matter to set up, even just for a one-off event in one country.

Even those countries that don't outright ban US business may require that the company have a presence in their country and even that their division there be 51% or more owned by nationals of that country. As mentioned, duties and fees can be quite high and/or very complicated too.

Based on my experience (in my industry), you'd be better off contacting the distributor for your country. They'd be the ones $@!&# in compliance with local law and customs and it would probably be infinitely easier for them to sponsor a contest. They might do it on behalf of Fender or in other countries may have to represent the contest as being strictly a local offer.

Cool, I wonder if we could get a distributor to let us take part. If not then it's annoying but so what. I just buy my t-shirts. I have 12 Fender shirts but no forum one, I need to sort that out.

I've seen a few FZ's around here. The striped down, naked bike thing took-off a bit slower here than elsewhere I hear.

Coincidently I just got an Email from Amazon.com advertising a contest to win an Olympic White Fender Strat to commerate the release of a new Jimi Hendrix CD set.It is open to Canadian citizens also as it offers a space for postal/zip codes and country. Also I found some past winners from Canada and the UK on Gibson's website.Strange,I guess some companies take a chance on bending the rules maybe in the interest of public relations. It would be strange for Gibson to do this since their PR are supposed to be abysmal since Henry J. took over.

Yeah, they were big in Europe with several naked options before they caught on here. With the detuned R1 motor and nice ergos... what's not to like? 8)

fender and even this forum have had international contests before. it isn't impossible, but it is certainly more of a hassle, and probably more expensive. i too wish i could enter more, but probably only get the occasional contest.
To all of you piling on the OP, he didn't criticize the USA, he criticized Fender for not having more international contests.

Really, i think Fender would benefit from holding more worldwide contests. or to hold simultaneous contests in different markets. My country, Canada, falls under the umbrella of fender's USA distribution, so i wish they would partner with one of our vendors. Plenty of other US companies do this.

I am not going to address any of the truly idiotic statements here (you know who you are,) as I have traveled extensively in the USA and I don't believe the vast bulk of your countrymen share your ignorance.

What the hell kind of question is that? What does the OP's greivance have to do with how his country performs?

Before you go asking those questions you ought take a look at the way alot of the world views the USA. Ask yourself, why does half the 3rd world want to blow you up?

Hey haven't you heard, the world loves the USA now, we have Obama as president! No one wants to blow us up they love with us now.

This argument is delicious.

A few things array in this i can provide an answer to.

1) VAT and customs charges are insane, its 17.5% of the price of the pakage with £35 ontop of that. For example i once bought a Voodoo labs pedal off ebay for £90. However postage and packing was only 10 but.... I got Vat which was £15.75 and customs charges for £35. so i ended up spending more than half the price of the actual product just to get it here. TAX in britain is stupid.

2) British goverment is as equally retarded as US goverment.

3) Yeah, you americans might have jumped in last minute in WW2 to lend europe a hand but if we have a look back in WW1 the british and the rest of europe did most the work there and you USA wernt seen anywhere. If the brits hadnt stopped the natzi's then, they would have built up a few more forces and jumped over the pond and caned you.

So yeah,
Your welcome.

I hate all governments but I'm proud to be Scottish/Irish/American.

Politicians are professional liars.

Some people are just ignorant. Hopefully it wont be more than a troll. People like that just get me raging.

Had a good wee cool down jam there to some Big Bill Broonzy, I am back in the serenity of Christmas guys.

Because he came in here criticizing my country. If he wants to play that game, he should disclose where he's from and what his country is doing for the world. No country gives more to the world than the USA.

Hey, we respect our British friends, but let's face it ... you and the French would flying swastikas if it wasn't for American blood and American money.

You're welcome.

I really think you need to re-enter the education system you think is so good. The Russian invasion was the reason Germany lost WWII it had nothing to do with American forces coming in for the last 5 minutes.
What wars have America won on their own? Wasn't the last one against us? Oh yeah you nuked Japan and started a nuclear arms race that left the world in a permanent state of eternal threat.
Also you may have realized if you had bothered to finish school that the OP is voicing a grievance at FMIC.
Also Museseek you may want to re-assess America's prolonged funding of the IRA before you start making jibes about bombs. When you think of it, you can certainly see the forward planning involved for your current quest for world domination. The fact is that the supporting of the IRA since 1970 odd pretty much undermines all your war of terror.

Gomania. Heres some interesting reading on the US education system.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/1998/02/25/MN54903.DTL&type=printable

Here's another from one of your own newspapers.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/12/04/AR2007120400730.html

For higher education (University level) you currently have top with Princeton, having beat Cambridge by 0.4% this year. Its been pretty much neck and neck throughout this decade.

Now to all my friends overseas. This is in no way a slight against anyone on a personal level. I'm just pointing out the idiocy of a couple of blinkered people that seem to have started a battle of wits whilst unarmed.
