Does anyone own the H2 ? Just wondering about its recording quality. I recieved one for a early x-mas gift. Hoping to record a few gigs and burn a CD. Figure it would be alot easier than luggin' my old 4-track tascam.

Yep I got one. Its a good tool for impromptu recordings and in that instance gives a good quality of recording. Positioning is everything with it though. I've had mine a few months and cant suss out how to bias one of the 2 microphones on the thing. Its generaly easy to use though.

I'm gonna try it tonight at band practice. hopefully get good results. I'm gonna try the auto gain control function, and wav44.1khz/16bit recording mode. We tend to play loud in a small room at our warehouse, so I'm in hopes that it doesn't sound distorted during play back.

My advice is to try and point the 2 mic's at the vox and guitar. Drums and bass tend to dominate otherwise. They blend in nicely onto guitar and vox tracks though. get the vox and guitar amps facing each other with the bass and drums off to the sides. Have the H2 central and the mic faces pointing at the guitar and vox amps.
We rehearse in a similar situation.

Where I found it best serves is at home, recording riffs. I must have knocked out 7 complete songs this last month. Not bad going for someone who hardly writes at all.

I've got one as well Dutchy. I like it for recording practices or even performances for personal playback. Positioning is everything as Niki said especially in a small room. Do use the autogain control. I found out the hard way in a small room that the lows and mids will ruin your recording otherwise. With a 544 card you will only get about 15 minutes of recording time on 4 channel at the higher bit rate. Go stereo 2 channel and no more than 16 bit. Better yet get a 4 meg card.

I've also used it like an MP3 player thru my PODx3 pedalboard and monitor. I'll download a backing track on the card in one of the folders, play it back and use for practice. Its a handy little device. FYI the manufacturer has discontinued the H2 in the US market.

I've got one as well and I've been very happy with the quality of the recordings. I have to agree with everyone else that positioning is everything. It sometimes took me a while to find just the right spot to get the best quality.
