I really wish we all could carry more of the attitude and kindness everyone extends during the holidays throughout the year. It is amazing how right after the week ends so does that good will. Maybe someday.

Happy Holidays to All

Always an awkward time for me. Reminds me of having to spend time with certain family members. Still, in spite of myself, I get into a cheerful mood this time of year.

I wonder, this time of year, what would have happened if Jesus' message of charity, forgiviness and faith would have been taken as the main drive of Christianity. Instead of vanity, ascensionism, control, shame and fear.
Maybe religion would've be a positive movement, instead of the scam it is.
Jesus could've been the prince of peace, instead of the american god of
war.

That's just me. Maybe I'll go to hell, but at least I'll be there with Thomas Jefferson and his gang of deist heretics.

Mindless religious fanatics who seem to think this holiday is about something other than a mass marketing attempt to get people to spend their money and who can't even be bothered to consider that there ARE people who celebrate holidays -other- than Xmas this time of year (the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa...).

I agree with you completely, Jim. The early christian church merely cobbled together an awkward amalgamation of existing Winter Solstice celebrations like Saturnalia, the feast of Sol Invictus and the Germanic festival season Yule. December 25th is also the birthday of the Persian god Mithra.

However, I do enjoy taking a little downtime at the end of the year. That's enough of a "reason for the season" for me. 8)
