May you all have the gladness of Christmas which is hope; The spirit of Christmas which is peace; The heart of Christmas which is love.

Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmas-time.... Laura Ingalls Wilder

We think about what we can buy for friends, for loved ones - everyone seems so hard to shop for. Isn't it strange, when you come to think of it, that we just can't think of anything that our friends and loved ones need!

Perhaps we look in the wrong place. There may be nothing in the store that we need, but how about a token of love - -

love itself
and friendship
and fellowship
and thoughtfulness
and smiles
and a prayer

These things are not for sale - - but they are the things that people need. Everyone needs them, and those who receive them this Christmas or at any time will be blessed indeed.

Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.

Post a few words about Christmas huh? Hhmmm...let's see...

Spending money I don't really have buying things for people/family members I don't really like.

Finding just the right presents for those same people or dealing with the guilt of giving something completely impersonal such as "gift cards" because said people can't even be bothered to tell you what they may actually want for the holidays.

Knowing that same said people really aren't going to bother to put even 5 seconds worth of thought in to what they could get you...regardless of whether you gave them a "wish list" or not.

Having to deal with family who otherwise can't even be bothered to pick up the phone occasional just to say "hello"...they show up to pick up their gifts, you exchange a few uncomfortable pleasantries and then you don't hear from that again until next Xmas when you do the same all over again.

The arguments, screaming and fighting that is bound to occur when same said people are brought in to too close of a proximity of each other.

Not being able to be with the people who you actually -do- care about.

Dealing with rude, obnoxious, inconsiderate, selfish people at the malls (not to mention the traffic jams from all of the idiots running from store to store/mall to mall).

Human greed in it's purest, most unadulterated form.

The rude, pushy sales people at those same stores who I would -really- love to just bash in to a bloody pulp with a baseball bat.

The lines at the check outs (and the goodness help you if you have to walk in to a "Best Buys" for anything!!!).

Mindless religious fanatics who seem to think this holiday is about something other than a mass marketing attempt to get people to spend their money and who can't even be bothered to consider that there ARE people who celebrate holidays -other- than Xmas this time of year (the Winter Solstice, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa...).

Oh...hey...here's one...bad food and/or the risk of having to have your stomach pumped because your mother-in-law couldn't be bothered to make sure the food was actually cooked all the way through!

Screaming brats that really need to be on leashes who are supposed to pass for well behaved children (no...really...somebody give me a hockey stick please! How about a tazar or even a good cattle prod?).

The complete and utter waste of electricity for the ridiculous holiday lights...after all, who really cares about global warming anyways, right?

Dealing with the loss of family members or loved ones who you actually do...oh...I'm sorry..."did" care about.

The guilt and depression that's associated with this time of year for a great many people.

Utterly lame television programming (particular Xmas day!)...not all of us like lame holiday parades or stupid football games!

Trying to find someplace that's actually open on Xmas day to get away from the nasty family members and the screaming brats.

Hangovers...if not yours, then someone else in the family who is going to be utterly intolerable to be around for the rest of the day.

Returning all of the completely useless and tasteless crap that people got you afterward (and standing in yet MORE lines to do so) so that maybe...just maybe...you can actually afford your heating bill this month.

Last but certainly not least, that horrible, lame, miserable, utterly pathetic Xmas music that permeates every freaking store you try to walk in to!!!

Yea...merry f***ing Xmas...woo-hoo. :(

Sorry if that offends anyone but that's the truth of the matter for a great many of us.

Happy Belated Solstice,
Jim

no offense taken, but it sounds like you could use a little of what miami and glory (and myself for that matter) are dishing out, i. e., peace brother, and (speaking for myself here) you can only find it in One Person.

and as John Lennon put it... "Happy uh Christmas, and a merry goo year!" to everybody here at the forum.

Peace.
